1738 14th Street, NW at S Street

“Dear PoPville,

Saw this sign in the door of Chicken + Whiskey today. Have you heard anything?”

I’m happy to report that Chicken + Whiskey is doing very well – this signage is for the space upstairs. As for the Dacha coming to the parking lot next door – I have no idea. Maybe since Navy Yard opened they’ll now focus attention here? Anyone know hear anything?

DC Fire and EMS first reported at 2:34pm:

“#DCsBravest on scene of a structural collapse in the 1300 block 13th St NW. PIO enroute and will provide more information upon arrival.”

One reader speculates it was related to the F-35 fly by that happened around 2pm:

“It was super loud and I’m also pretty sure that the vibrations it was giving off (every building was shaking) contributed to the building collapse at 13/N NW. The building there was already super fragile and didn’t seem well supported for construction, and this was just the thing to push it.” (more…)

1825 14th Street, NW

Masa 14 opened up back 2009 – go down memory lane here, many ups and downs.

Big news for 14th Street. Back in January we posted some scuttlebutt wondering if Masa 14’s days were numbered. We need wonder no more. The Washington Business Journal reported yesterday: “Atlanta’s Gypsy Kitchen restaurant to open in D.C.” Eater DC reported Masa 14’s closure would come “by the end of August.”

Gypsy Kitchen’s Atlanta website says:

“Our restaurant draws inspiration from the culinary riches of Spain – infused with Moroccan traditions from across the Gibraltar and Indian influences that travelled west along the same seas. Centuries of interplay between these food traditions and lands inspires our Iberian fusion plates. (more…)

1529 14th Street, NW

Yesterday we learned that after 7 years this would be Drafting Table’s last week in Logan Circle.

Bisnow got the goods on who will replace them:

“Vin Sur Vingt signed a 2,200 SF lease at 1529 14th St. NW, where it will replace Drafting Table in the ground floor of an apartment building.”

The article also says the wine bar is “looking at areas from Mount Vernon Triangle to The Wharf to Bethesda.”

Vin Sur Vingt’s website says:

“Established 2011, Vin Sur Vingt (“VSV”) Wine Bar, a play on “Vingt / Vingt”, is your neighborhood wine bar with five locations throughout New York City – West Village, NoMad, Plaza Hotel, Upper West Side and newly opened, Tribeca.
