“Dear PoP,

Also on 14th Street a block or so away to the South, there is a large Verizon building. It looks like the place has tons of telephone wires inside harkening back to an earlier time. I was just wondering if that building was ever used? It seems out-of-date and out-of-place now. Also seems like it would be great for lofts.”

Hahaha, that’s for sure, it’s a great location for lofts…but you’d have to put in a lot of new windows!

Does anyone know what actually goes on in this building?

“Dear PoP,

I was at an event with chef RJ Cooper, who just left Vidalia two days ago (http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/blogs/youngandhungry/2010/06/09/chef-r-j-cooper-leaves-vidalia/). He said that he’s opening his own restaurant, Pigtails, and that he’s 90% sure it will go into the 14th Street strip. I suggested he look into the vacant 100% Mexico spot that was supposed to be Barton Seaver’s Diamond District Seafood. He said that he had looked there, but that the spot will become a fast food restaurant. He didn’t get more specific about what type of fast food.”

1612 14th St, NW to become a fast food restaurant? I’m still waiting for news of the triumphant return of 100% Mexico to this spot.

Tom Siestsma shares the big scoop:

The local Whisk Group and Abdo Development have partnered to bring a two-course Italian menu to Logan Circle. Italian Shirt Laundry, named for the long-ago business it replaces at 1601 14th St. NW, will be a combination pizzeria and bakery; the slightly more upscale Italian Cinema, expected to replace Abdo’s current office at 1404 14th St., NW, will serve pasta, charcuterie and, as the title suggests, Italian films screened against a wall on the restaurant’s roof.

As an admitted lover of Italian restaurants, I’m super psyched by this news.

We recently learned about Point Chaud’s soft opening at 1734 14th Street, NW (south of S). I know I usually wait a bit longer for a Judging Restaurants post but I stopped by this weekend and thought it was delicious. Anyone else check them out yet? Oh yeah and they have Illy coffee as well!

The space looks great as well:

And since I take many of my lunches on the road I can’t think of a more perfect concoction. I always go with cheese, tomato and avocado? What is your favorite concoction?

We’ve been following the progress of Point Chaud at 1734 14th Street, NW for many many months now. I’m happy to report that I stopped in yesterday to chat with the owners and they told me they will be soft opening today or tomorrow. The place was still undergoing some minor finishing touches so I was unable to get a photo inside but the space looks great. And they even got a proper sign! If anyone stops by for a bite this weekend send me a photo please…

This property jumped out at me for a couple of reasons. First I just featured it as Garden of the Day last week. As I’ve said many times, I love to get to see inside some of the places I’ve coveted from the outside.

This 12 bed/9 bath is yours for $4,000,000.
