Thanks to a reader for sending the news and an email from the owners of Dogs by Day/Green Pets. The reader mentions that they believe the proposed new site is at 1711 Florida Ave, NW. The owner of Dogs by Day is requesting your help to obtain a C of O:

Hello Friends and Neighbors,

As many of you already know, Dogs by Day and GreenPets are moving out of our current location to a new building a few blocks away. We are being forced to move for a number of reasons; mainly the building is no longer safe and the landlord refuses to do any repairs. In addition, the landlord thinks a large restaurant would pay more rent than we have offered, so unfortunately, we must leave. The good news is we found a wonderful new building with a terrific landlord only a couple blocks away. We have also found a second location a couple of blocks south as well. We’re hoping that with these 2 locations we’ll be able to serve you even better than we can now.

That being said, we need your help to move forward. As is true with all dog care facilities, we must apply for a special Certificate of Occupancy no matter how long we’ve been in business. We are fortunate to have a meeting scheduled for this Friday the 13th to discuss this issue. We are urging all of you who are willing to write a letter of support and or sign the petitions we have at the front desks of both Dogs by Day and GreenPets.

We have been in business for over 11 years and we’d very much like to continue for another 11 years. Please help us and fax your letter to the number listed below. Any words of support would be most appreciated.

I apologize for the urgency however, we need letter of support submitted by noon, Friday, August 13th. Please fax once you completed your letter.

Thank you so very much for your prompt attention to this matter.

Gratefully,
Linda Welch

Wow, it’s been fun speculating about what’s going in this space that used to be 100% Mexico years ago. Diamond District got us excited but turned out to be a tease. But now Metrocurean tweeted this weekend:

“Jeff Black (BlackSalt, Black’s, etc) is looking into 1612 14th St. for a new seafood restaurant, the Dupont Current reports. (Yay!)”

I don’t get the Dupont Current but I was just planning on visiting BlackSalt so I take that as a very good omen! Stay tuned as details emerge.

“Dear PoP,

Do you have any more information than the Post did about the carjacking near Logan Circle Monday?

Horrifying!”

The Post wrote:

“A motorist was stabbed Monday afternoon in downtown Washington during a carjacking, D.C. police said.

They said the man remained conscious after being wounded in the incident in which his car was taken about 5 p.m. near 10th and N Streets NW. The intersection is between the Logan Circle and Mount Vernon Square areas.”

Fortunately an update from MPD went out yesterday saying the alleged attacker had been caught:

“Below is the information in relation to the Armed Carjacking/Stabbing at 10th and N Street , yesterday evening:

ARREST# : 061003792
DT-TM: 19-JUL-10 – 1840
LOCATION: rear 2928 K Street Se
OFFENDER: PULLEY, ROBERT
SEX: M
OFFENSE: ARMED CARJACKING
TYPE: FELONY
OFFICER: MINOR”

El Tamarindo finally got their outdoor seating at 1785 Florida Ave, NW.

When I first wrote about them applying some thought they’d get denied or it’s just a poor place for outdoor seating. Do you still think this will not be a pleasant space to eat outside?

And it got me thinking about Churchkey/Birch & Barley’s outdoor seating at 1337 14th St, NW. Do you think this is a pleasant space to eat outside?

More exciting restaurant news for 14th St, NW. I never would have thought a restaurant would go into one of these spaces at 1323 14th Street, NW but am eager to see how it will turn out. The alcohol application permit says:

“New restaurant serving Thai cuisine. Total occupancy load of 146.”

Looks like there’ll be some competition for Thaitanic across the street at 1326 14th Street, NW.

The Craigslist ad says:

“Fully furnished beautiful large studio in secure building. Kitchen has dishwasher, microwave, coffeemaker, gas stove/oven, refrigerator, disposal dishes, glasses and utensils. New carpeting and flooring and vacuum cleaner. Has a Murphy bed. Laundry facilities on each floor. Pool on rooftop. All utilities included. No pets. Close to 3 metro stations and bus routes.”

Does $1295 sound reasonable?

At first this space was going to become a crepe place then in Feb. we heard it was going to become a burger spot with an outdoor garden. Then we heard nothing. Perhaps all hope is not lost as a new sign just went up applying for an outdoor seating area. The front of the old Garden District space here looks tailor made for a great outdoor seating area. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.

“Dear PoP,

I was walking by Dogs by Day the other day and there is a brick building to the right of Dogs by Day. I think the address is 1728th 14th ST NW, but I could be off +-2. The building hardly has any windows, and the few windows that it does have are long but narrow. There is also a security camera out front. There is no identification of a business or even address. Do you have any idea of what this building is? Looks kind of mysterious.”

Great question! Anyone have a clue?
