Sea of Gingko Leaves on Swann Street

Thanks to ncjohn for sending from the 1400 block of Swann Street, NW yesterday. We’ve previously checked out some sweet yellow leaves from the gingko but this is totally wild. ncjohn theorizes that “the cold air caused all the leaves to drop off all the ginkgo trees at once.”

Shinola Detroit Pops Up on 14th Street before Opening Permanent Location in Logan Circle

Last month we learned Shinola Detroit (bikes, watches etc.) would be opening a permanent location at 14th and R Street, NW in one of the retail spaces at the former Central Union Mission (Central Union Mission moved to a newly renovated space, the former Gales school near Union Station.) At that time we also heard some scuttlebutt that Shinola would open a pop up in the former Escrow space across the street until their permanent space is ready. That scuttlebutt turned out to be true and they’re now open – Sun.-Fri. 11am-6pm and Sat. 11am-7pm.

Crow Bar No Longer Being Resurrected at the former Ghana Cafe Space in Logan

Back in August we learned that there were plans to bring back Crow Bar [closed in ’98 at 20th and K St, NW] to the former Ghana Cafe space on 14th Street just south of Rhode Island Ave in the former Ghana Cafe space. In following up on the progress, one of the partners now tells me that the deal fell through. Updates when we learn who next takes over the space.

Free coffee time for bicycle commuters going through Logan Circle Wed. morning

“BIG NEWS! Our Logan Circle shop opens Saturday! Our Union Market shop turns 2 on Sunday! Come celebrate all weekend!”
