Solid State Books is now spreading the good news on twitter:

“Coming soon to @TheApolloDC!”

The Apollo is also home to, of course, Whole Foods and The Wydown Coffee Bar.

Solid State’s website says:

“Solid State Books will operate as a full-service general interest bookstore with a deep and diverse selection of fiction and non-fiction titles curated to appeal to neighborhood residents of all ages as well as to the many visitors from other parts of DC, Virginia, Maryland, and beyond. Solid State Books will have extensive children’s book and young adult sections to fully serve our smallest readers. Our deep slate of programming will include author readings and signings, children’s story hours, book groups, local interest panels, political conversations and more! To better meet the needs of our clientele, we will also have a coffee bar with a delicious selection of snacks, beer, and wine. We can’t wait to see you in the store!”

Will be interesting to see if that will be some coffee saturation or not?

Thanks to Grant for sending an update on the former Vendetta space (previously Palace of Wonders/Red & the Black):

“I hear it is now a coffeeshop pastry joint named Kyss Kyss. There was a golden pineapple on one of the tables…”

Frozen Tropics posted a sign last week announcing their grand opening. The sign said “Free Cupcake when you buy a drink.”

Well, good news for drinkers with a sweet tooth…

Thanks to Clifton for sending Sunday morning:

“When you drive your car onto the tracks at 3 am–”

Kevin reports:

“Pretty nasty accident between police cruiser and sedan this morning at 7 and S. Heard the crash!”

MPD Chief Newsham reports:

“At 4:47 am a female MPD officer rear-ended an uber driver on 7th and R Streets NW. Both were hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries”

“Dear PoPville,

Any info on what closed down H St. NE between 11th & 12th Sts. last night about 11pm?

The whole block was shut down, sidewalks closed too, and over 20 police vehicles on the block plus a whole lot of officers.”

MPD reported:

“Last night at approximately 9:15 PM, members of the First District were dispatched to an assault in the 1100 block of H Street, NE. Once on the scene, a complainant was located who was suffering from serious injuries. This case is being actively investigated. Anyone who may have information or witnessed the assault is asked to contact MPD at 202-727-9099.”

A reader reports:

“Looks like street car clipped the mirron on an ambulance at 14th & H. I don’t see any reason to have that lane at a standstill. Just have the cops take the info, and move on and take the car out of service.”
