Wings and Ice Cream to Georgetown Plus Has Philadelphia Water Ice Closed on Georgia Ave?

Georgetown Wing Co. has opened at 3291 M Street NW upstairs from Crepe Amour. 

And I feel like I’ve seen this sign for a while so I wonder if Georgetown Scoops is still coming to 2818 Wisconsin Ave, NW.

The last few times I’ve walked past the Philadelphia Water Ice at 2620 Georgia Ave, NW it has been closed. Since their phone is disconnected I’m assuming this as permanent. Anyone know when they closed?

Georgetown’s New Apple Store Opens Friday June 18th at 5pm

I know lots of folks have been waiting for this day. The new store will be located at 1229 Wisconsin Ave, NW and will be open Friday from 5pm – 9pm. Regular store hours will be:

Mon – Sat:
10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Sun:
11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

While it remains business as usual for some, many others can soon rejoice. From an email:

“In celebration of our new store, current Mac owners can buy a One to One membership, normally available only with the purchase of a new Mac. Plus, the first 1000 customers get a free commemorative T-shirt.”

Dodge City Gets New Signage and Second Hand Clothing Store Coming to 14th St, in Columbia Heights, UGG coming to Georgetown

Thanks to a reader for the heads up about the new signage at Dodge City at 917 U St, NW.

And a second hand clothing store (though there will be some new items as well) is opening up at 3531 14th St, NW. This is the storefront that was going to house the Guatemala Bakery.

The coming soon sign for UGG is at 1249 Wisconsin Ave, NW.

Judging Restaurants – Italian in Georgetown

I noticed a bit of an Italian Restaurant Row on 31 Street in Georgetown. Ristorante Piccolo is located at 1068 31st St NW.

Paper Moon is located across the street at 1069 31st Street NW. You can see their menu here.

Il Canale (warning music plays on their Web site) is located down the block at 1063 31st Street, NW.

So out of the three – which is the best? Any must order dishes? Any idea why they all congregated on 31st Street?

While I’m very happy with the YES! Organic Market a bit further up the block at Georgia and Taylor, I find it pretty appalling to compare the Petworth Safeway to the Georgetown Safeway. I understand that Georgetown residents have a lot of money to spend so obviously they are going to get a nice store but Petworth residents were told time and time again that this relic on Georgia Ave was going to be upgraded. Whenever I ask Mayor Fenty or Council Member Bowser they say, plans are still in the works. But Lord – how long must we wait. Quite frankly I just don’t like all the bullshit. If they’re not going to upgrade the Georgia Ave Safeway then just say so. Be honest with us, we can take it. I’ve heard lots of rumors as to why the Safeway upgrade has stalled. Some blame residents, some blame Safeway, some blame funding/tax break issues. But are we not entitled to an honest answer?

So once and for all – should the Georgia Ave Safeway be upgraded? If so, what is the responsibility of Safeway, our elected leaders and/or the residents to make sure this happens.  I believe that Mt. Vernon Square (City Vista), Adams Morgan, Georgetown, Navy Yard (SW Waterfront) all have new or upgraded stores.  Besides Petworth what other neighborhoods do you think are due for an upgrade?

I can tell you when I walked into the Georgia Ave store this weekend I was hit with a foul odor. When I walked into the Wisconsin Ave store, I could swear that the aisles were paved with gold. Not to speak for all but I’d be happy with half as nice an upgrade in Petworth.

Georgetown Library Progressing Nicely

The Georgetown library is progressing nicely on Wisconsin Ave, NW. There’s some nice copper details as well. But what is this thing at the top – I noticed it at the Petworth library (also under construction) as well? Will it be a clock?

Incidentally the Shaw library is also progressing nicely, should be a few more months I’m guessing.
