1921 I Street, NW

Thanks to an eagle eyed reader for spotting a Jetties permit coming to the former Juice Zone space (which closed in Oct. 2011) at 20th and I St, NW next to the Baja Fresh. This will be a fourth location for Jetties which has two other locations in DC. We judged their sandwiches back in April 2011. You can see their menus here.

According to the permit, the I Street location will have seating for 15:

Dear PoPville,

I wanted to share something I noticed in Foggy Bottom. The Allen Lee, a rather run-down hotel (really, a quasi-hostel) at 2224 F Street, has a notice posted on the door about a public hearing regarding changes to the building. It mentions the proposed changes including a high-end restaurant and 81 room hotel.

The notice posted is a liquor license application which says:

“A new hotel/restaurant serving upscale food and drinks, with 81 rooms.”

Will update as construction progresses.

The classic Foggy Bottom/GW bar – Froggy Bottom Pub, which came to 2142 Pennsylvania Ave, NW in 1985, is moving nearby to 2021 K Street, NW in the former Thai Kingdom space, which closed after 25 years in Aug. 2011. I spoke with a manager at Froggy Bottom who said they’d remain open in the Penn. Ave space until they move, which is expected in February. You can see their menu here but the manager said it would be completely revamped in the new space. Stay tuned.

I’ve gotten so many emails asking about the former Tony’s Flowers (Tony’s was there for 40 years) space at 20th and I St, NW. I finally found out what’s happening – an East Indian restaurant will be moving into the space after extensive renovations. More details as they become available.

Oh yeah, they may also put in a roof deck:

1901 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW

Back in May we learned Heritage India would be closing their Dupont location at 1337 Connecticut Ave, NW and looking for a new spot. Looks like they found one – 1901 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW in the former Soho Cafe and Market. A liquor license application posted out front says about Heritage India:

“An Indian fine dining restaurant with seating for 250 patrons and total occupancy load of 250. Requesting a sidewalk café with 100 seats and an entertainment endorsement.”

You can see their menu here.

Heritage India’s Dupont location was the scene of a shooting on Nov. 27th 2011.

On Monday we saw PAUL opened their third location at 1000 Connecticut Ave, NW. Looks like they may have a 4th in the works. A commenter writes:

“They are also supposedly opening in 2000 Penn. NW (Tower Records old space) before the end of 2012. The building management sent out an announcement to tenants of the building last month.”

You can see PAUL’s menu here.
