Wow, I’m digging that kitchen. What’s your favorite room? It’s yours for $1,599,000.

And for those not looking to pay that type of coin, another 3 bed/3bath, Unit 3B-E is going for $1,095,000.

Back in July I posted some photos of H Mart to a photos from PoPville post. I had no idea there were so many fans. H Mart is a specialty Asian Market with locations nationwide including a few locations in MD and VA.  So I couldn’t believe it when a tipster sent word that H Mart was negotiating for the old Secret Safeway space at 1800 20th St, NW in Dupont. I believe there are a few folks negotiating for this space but thought the fans of H Mart would be psyched to learn about this possibility. Of course this is only scuttlebutt so I’ll be sure to update as more info becomes available on the new tenant.

If an H Mart does sign a deal on this space, do you think it’ll be a good fit with the neighborhood?

The Craigslist ad says:

“This magnificent building offers studios, one and two bedroom apartments with antique heart pine floors and boutique sunlit kitchens.

* On-line rent payment
* On-line maintenance requests
* On-site storage facilities
* Modern laundry facilities
* Discounted high-speed wired and wireless internet access
* 24 Hour controlled access and video monitoring”

I’m thinking this is gonna go pretty fast because the ad says this studio is going for $900 this week only. Am I crazy or does that seem pretty cheap?

“Dear PoP,

Saw this sign on the window of the former Lawson’s, just behind the Krispy Kreme in Dupont Circle. Can it be true?”

It’s true! The old Lawsons is becoming a Panera, right outside the Dupont South Metro stop.

Since my beloved Yanni’s closed in Cleveland Park, lots of readers mentioned Greek Deli as the place to get the best gyro in town. So I thought they deserved a proper judging restaurants post. Greek Deli is located at 1120 19th St, NW. Besides the gyro are there any other must order items? How crowded do they get over lunchtime? You can see their menus here.

And nearby at 1107 19th St, NW is Schakolad Chocolate Factory. I was just curious if any chocolate fans were familiar with this spot?

Ed. Note: Whenever we talk Greek food someone mentions the Greek Spot at 11th and U St, NW. You can see a profile by Tina here.

“Historic 1908 Italianate mansion in Kalorama featuring dramatic double living room with dual fireplaces, large dining room, eat-in kitchen, in addition to large master suite. The property also includes 4 other bedrooms, 5.5 baths, extremely large 2-car garage/carriage house with staff apt above. Property is located on a large lot.”

You can find more info here and a virtual tour here.

Ah, more proper house porn… This was also a House of the Day back in Dec. ’09. What’s your favorite part? It’s yours for $3,200,000.

Flippin’ Pizza is located at 1745 Connecticut Avenue, NW. They’ve been open for over a month now so I thought I’d check if anyone has tried them out yet. If so, how do they rank compared to other places around town? Are they more of a slice place or a proper pie place?

I’ve been getting a steady number of emails with the following type of query:

“Dear PoP,

Have you heard anything about what will be going into the now-vacant Townhouse/Secret Safeway?”

Unfortunately I haven’t heard any details on who/what may be moving in. I don’t even have any reliable, or for that matter unreliable, scuttlebutt on the space. Have you guys heard anything?

If not let’s dream a little. What/who do you think would be the perfect tenant for this location.  A brewpub?  Would a restaurant be a natural fit here?  Given the large space and location what do you think will work best here?

Also, for the folks that live nearby, will you miss the grocery store?

Looped Yarn Works will be coming to 1732 Connecticut Ave, NW above Mourayo restaurant. Their Web site says:

“Looped Yarn Works is bringing yarn back to Dupont Circle. We’ve all missed our local yarn store (lys) in the neighborhood. We’re excited to bring the community a friendly, comfortable and warm shop with a selection of beautiful yarns and notions. Some of the yarns you’ll find at Looped include Malabrigo, Berocco, Koigu, Rowan, Frog Tree, Classic Elite, SWTC, Blue Heron and Tilli Tomas. And this is just the beginning!”

And in sadder news the Pleasure Place, always fun to walk by, has closed nearby at 1710 Connecticut Ave, NW. Looks like there is still a location on Wisconsin Ave in Georgetown. For those who will miss the Dupont location you can go nearby to Secret Pleasures located at 1510 U Street, NW.

I keep trying to find a catch here, but this looks really nice. Well the monthly coop fee is fairly high – $508. What do you think of the condo itself? It was originally going for $349,000 but is now listed at $285,000.
