1990 M St, NW

Back in Jan. 2012 we learned TakeEatEasty would be coming to the former China Cafe space at 1990 M St, NW. The folks from Fast Gourmet write me to say that they are no longer affiliated with the project. Fast Gourmet owners Fernando and Lina Almiron write:

We wanted to in form you that our partnership with Juan Olivera has ended as of July 23rd. Juan (AKA Nacho) and Manuel Olivera are no longer part of Fast Gourmet. Fernando Almiron Founder and Owner of Fast Gourmet has purchased Mr. Oliveras shares and ended his partnership with him due to irreconcilable differences.

We want to make sure that is clear Fast Gourmet has nothing to do with the place the Oliveras are opening in the next coming months. TAKEATEASY is not part of Fast Gourmet and never was, this is a venture Mr.Olivera has with other investors.

As always our focus is to provide our clients a great dinning experience, nothing in the daily operations of the restaurant will change, just minor improvements to enhance the experience here at Fast Gourmet.

The New Orleans Poboy Shop has opened up at 1205 19th St, NW (just north of M Street.) You can see their menu here and specials here. Looking forward to hearing from the New Orleans expats to see if these are the real deal – we’ll revisit for a proper judging after they’ve been open for a bit.

M Street, NW just west of 19th Street

In early Aug. we noted that Sweet Diablo coming to coming 19th and M St, NW looked close to opening. I stopped by yesterday and found out they’d be soft opening this morning with a grand opening in September. To start they will be open from 7:30am-6:30pm with possible later hours on Thurs. and Fri.

Originally from Portugal, they have other locations in Spain, Brazil and Australia. This will be their first US location (with plans for more to come.)

Here’s what they’re famous for:

But the cafe will offer more than chocolate cake including cheese cake, other pastries, coffee, tea, juices, salads and Paoninis (their version of paninis):

Check out the full menu after the jump. (more…)

A reader writes:

“Just walked by and the door was propped open so I thought I’d snap some photos and share. Any idea when it’s supposed to open? Can’t wait!”

Back in early June we noted their good sense of humor. One of the owners tells me that while they don’t have an exact opening date, if all goes well, they are hoping for a September opening. Updates as construction progresses.

1337 Connecticut Ave, NW

On Tuesday we learned that Heritage India was reopening in the former Soho Market space at 19th and Pennsylvania Ave, NW. I stopped by the former Heritage India space at 1337 Connecticut Ave, NW and noticed the windows were papered over. Asking around, I hear that the owners of nearby Fiesta Tex-Mex have taken over the space. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.

Update from Heritage India PR:

“The family that owns Heritage India owns and operates Fiesta. Fiesta is not taking over the Heritage India space. We no longer lease the 1337 space.”
