Thanks to a couple of readers for sending word:

Queen’s English got a stop work order after their new vestibule was installed on Sunday morning. Gotta at least love the positive attitude about their sticker! But the real question is how did someone get someone from DCRA to come out at 9:26 am on a Sunday? I’ve put in illegal construction requests for bricks falling during business hours and months later got a closed notification email and a “how did we do?” survey request.” (more…)

From a press release:

“Chef Alfredo Solis opens his newest venture, Anafre on Friday, November 22.

An anafre, meaning “portable oven” in Spanish, is traditionally a clay pot that has an opening in the bottom where hot coals are placed that then heat up the dish on top of the pot. The restaurant is an ode to Chef Solis’ mother who grew up on the Mexican countryside where she was tasked with cooking for the family. Since they lived without gas or electric, the anafre was their only stove. This style of cooking is interpreted in an open kitchen where most items will be prepared on over charcoal. (more…)

Last week Michael tipped us off that a liquor license application for Creole on 14th had been filed for 3365 14th Street, NW – which is the home to the coming Iron Age Korean/BBQ restaurant. Panic briefly ensued. Folks in the know said they heard that the Creole spot was really coming to the former El Tio space. The folks in the know were indeed in the know as that is exactly what’s happening. So file this as a win/win. Stay tuned for much more about Creole on 14th, which folks in the know say is very likely from the Po Boy Jim folks…as well as updates on Iron Age opening. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I was mugged half a block from my house on 13th St NW between Harvard and Girard on Sunday night at 5:40 pm. After the first robbery in August when my phone was stolen from me 2 blocks from home, I had bought a phone wrist strap to secure it to my wrist, which prevented the SECOND robbery in September from occurring when someone else tried to snatch it from me outside Smitty’s, a nearby bar where I was working on the weekends. The first two robberies occurred even earlier in the day than this one.

YES, this is the THIRD time I’ve been robbed in 3 months, and all have been in Ward 1.

This time, he ran up behind me and snatched the phone out of my hand. I had just taken it out to change the song because I was supposed to see Big Thief that night. (Heard it was a great show.) The wrist strap wouldn’t break so he shoved me hard to the ground until it broke. He started running away, and I started running after him (I KNOW, NOT SMART, but instinctual), and he turned around and punched me in the head. (more…)

UPDATE:

PERHAPS all is not lost for Korean. One reader hears the Creole place is coming to the old El Tio space a few storefronts down. Maybe it was just a typo on the placard?”

DEVELOPING.

Thanks to Michael for the heads up. A new liquor license placard for the space once planned for Iron Age says:

“Creole on 14th

New Retailer’s Class “C” Restaurant offering Creole cuisine for lunch and dinner. Applicant is applying for an Entertainment Endorsement. Applicant is also applying for a Sidewalk CafeEndorsement with 18 seats. Total seating inside is 100 with a Total Occupancy Load of 150.”

STAY TUNED.

Thanks to Michael for sending the Ledo Pizza update yesterday. Folks in the know say they are approximately two weeks away from opening. Check out their menu here.

This space was previously home to Bar Roubaix here back in December 2017. Before Bar Roubaix this space was home to Acre 121 and CommonWealth gastro pub before them. Stay tuned for an exact date for Ledo Pizza.
