“The limb from an enormous tree next door in Columbia heights straight up fell across our yard and the next door yard. Thankfully no one was hurt. So crazy. my neighbor was standing right under it 20 seconds earlier. There’s damage to my car, flattened the recycling bins like a pancake, broke the fence. I feel really lucky actually bc it could’ve been much much worse. This tree is beautiful and big, but clearly has been dying for some time. We’ve actually had an arborist come out 3 times over 3 years bc we have been concerned about it. They said this tree is an accident waiting to happen. But the owner’s done nothing since we sent our reports. (more…)

“On Thursday, June 25th, 2020 at approximately 3:00 am, Fourth District responded to the 1500 block of Meridian PL NW in reference to a shooting investigation. The victim was an adult male, who was conscious and breathing, suffering from a gunshot wound to the body. The victim is being treated at an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

This case is actively being investigated by Fourth District Detectives.

3420 14th Street, NW

“Dear PoPville,

Just got the call from the DC Dept of Health – apparently even more COVID tests were compromised due to heat.

Last Thursday 6/11, I waited nearly 3 hours in line to get tested for COVID at Engine 11 on 14th Street in Columbia Heights. I just got a call from a DC Department of Health representative informing me that my test results were “inconclusive” due to the tests being exposed to excessive heat. I asked if that was the case for all of the tests conducted at that site on that day and she said that was likely the case, and estimated that approximately 500 other test results were similarly impacted.
