Columbia Heights
Thanks to Reana (and others) for sending around 2:15pm: “Something seems very on fire in Columbia Heights near Irving St NW and Sherman.”
DC Fire and EMS reported: “Fire involved vehicle in rear alley that was quickly extinguished by DCsBravest with no extension to any homes.”
Folks started messaging us on Tuesday:
“I heard four loud bangs (explosions?) somewhere in columbia heights/park view/petworth over the last 20 or so minutes.”
“Just heard a 5th one. What the hell is going on?!”
As we all know, Wonderland is far from hidden but is most definitely a gem – sometimes dirty, sometimes polished, but let’s be honest, often dirty – and that’s why we love it. A very happy 19th to these good peeps and here’s to many more! (more…)
Thanks to Terry for sharing the continued sad state of affairs of the beautiful cascading fountain at Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park. Apparently the National Park Service does not have the funds to repair, again, this year. Hopefully next year. Stay tuned.

“Dear PoPville,
he scene on the 3600 block of 14th St NW in Columbia Heights (between Perry Pl and Spring Rd). I have not heard yet what happened. A passerby asked one of the police officers and the response was simply: “car accident.” The block has been shut down to traffic since at least 0800 this morning, Saturday 29 July, 2023. As of 1015 they have opened the sidewalk on the west side of the street to pedestrians.
There is at least one bicycle in a heavily damaged state. A person’s shoe remains behind near the bicycle in the road. (more…)
