The Craigslist ad says:

“Located at 1111 (Columbia Rd) Columbia Heights, this one bedroom apartment is within immediate walking distance of the Columbia Heights metro station and everything that Columbia Heights has to offer. It has also been recently renovated. The rent includes water, and the tenant pays electric and gas. It is available immediately. There is also off street parking available for an extra cost. We are showing it tomorrow, Friday at 6pm, so please come see it.”

Does $1225 sound reasonable for this one bedroom?

“Dear PoP,

If this situation doesn’t call for an F-bomb, I don’t know what does.

I tried to get to the DCUSA parking garage entrance on Park Road, but the road has been reconfigured in such a way that you cannot go straight across 14th Street on Park Road. I tried to ask the peach of a traffic cop about it, and she screeched at me “I don’t KNOW!”.

So I went around the block, down 13th, and up Kenyon. Again, this beacon of sweetness and light traffic cop forced me away from the turn I wanted to make.

It looks like the situation on Park Road, where you’re forced to turn right up 14th Street, is permanent. It’s the way the islands were placed. I think that in the absence of psychotic public servants, it’s possible to go from Kenyon to Park. Though it also looked possible that they are installing islands to prevent that turn/jog. And of course, one is able to turn right onto Park if one is southbound on 14th street.

I wouldn’t have to waste the PoP community’s time if there were any signage, or if the traffic cops were more inclined to help and less inclined to abuse. Any insight into the new traffic pattern would be appreciated.”

Could this be right – you can’t continue going straight onto Park road from Park road? It def. looks that way. Anyone know why this would be the case?

The flier says:

“Great Renovation! Four zone sound system in kitchen, living room, basement and master bedroom; intercom system, new hardwood floors, open kitchen, new windows, new A/C system, new electrical wiring & plumbing, SS appliances, granite countertops, recess lights. Two blocks from the metro station.”

You can find more info here and photos here.

This 3 bed/3.5 bath started out at $539,000 but is now on the market for $499,000. Sound reasonable? What do you think of the reno?

“Dear PoP,

First, what is the area above Spring, below Upshur between 14th and 13th. Neither Columbia Heights nor 16th Street Heights community associations seems to want it and they are worried if they move there it will always be unloved. I do not mean to start a line war but it seems excluded. Is there a way either association would consider
adding it?

Second, for people that actually live in that area, what do you think about it? Obviously a murder occurred at 14th and Perry recently but was that an oddity or is the place to be avoided?”

That’s Tivoli North of course. I’m just kidding, just kidding. Tivoli North actually is a business association but the idea of calling the neighborhood that is very controversial to say the least. The truth is, it depends who you ask. Among the residents that live in that area I’ve heard people refer to it as Columbia Heights, Petworth, 14th Street Heights, and 16th Street Heights. It is actually Ward 4 (Columbia Heights is Ward 1). I like the idea of 14th St. Heights.

And for #2, I’ll let the folks who live there answer but I travel that area all the time and while you should use street smarts (like most neighborhoods in the city) I only think this area will improve over time. What do you guys think?

The Craigslist ad says:

“A fun, considerate crew of 3 housemates is looking for a fourth. We’re a very DC house, in that we’re all 20somethings from somewhere else and are either feds or nonprofit types, but we’re definitely not fixated on politics and networking; likewise, although we enjoy each other’s company, we can be very busy people and go a week (or two)without all four of us being around at once.

When we do have the chance to hang out together, we enjoy catching up over beers on the porch, cooking (and eating!), planning outings to nearby restaurants, and throwing the occasional party. Starting August 1 or 2, we will have one very spacious room available for a one-year lease on the second floor of our recently renovated, dinner party-perfect house located right by Rock Creek Park. The room has hardwood floors, a huge closet with mirrored doors, a private bathroom, and three windows overlooking 16th St and our front porch.

We currently have 3 women (one of which is moving out) and 1 man living together, which has worked out well; but we are open to restoring gender balance. Please be the responsible, employed, rent-paying, kitchen-cleaning, non-smoking, queer-friendly, interesting type.

We’re environment and energy conscious and like to keep our heat low, our AC off (at least as much as possible), and our compost bin non-smelly. We split utilities, which usually run $40-80/month. Rent is $975/month and includes a monthly cleaning service and gardener. Though we love animals, we are a no-pet house. The house is on 16th Street, which puts much of the city in easy reach, and the Columbia Heights metro within a 12 minute walk. If you’re interested in joining a fun, smart house, please drop us a line and tell us a little bit about yourself and what you are looking for in a living situation!”

Think $975 sounds reasonable?

“Dear PoP,

Columbia Heights metro is shut down by police. No further details but thought you might know more/be interested.”

MPD just sent out an alert saying:

“The Third District is investigating a suspicious package at 14th and Irving St. NW. There is a lot of police activity along 14th street.”

Thanks to a reader for sending this info from CM Jim Graham:

“Dear Friends, Here is the Target hiring announcement for those seeking employment. We have also been informed that Target will open some 100 positions in the near future. Target is opening a full grocery store in July and extra staff is required.”

I wonder what they’ll add?

I’m still waiting for the mariachi band to return:

And help a reader find her camera:

“Dear PoP,

I know it’s a long shot but … a drunk Sunday night turned into losing a camera. We re-traced our steps and realized it either fell out of my bfs pocket on the way to our car (parked at Harriet Tubman) from Wonderland or getting out of the car (which we moved because we were in a school zone) on 11th between Monroe and Otis.

The camera is a Canon S90 and something we can probably replace (although the camera is awesome!) but the pictures are irreplaceable – a best friends wedding, Twins game, an engagement celebration, Juicy Lucys in Minnesota and various other important events.

Any ideas or thoughts on what we should do?”

Anyone know of someone who found an S90 I’m sure the reader would be happy just getting the memory card back.

“Dear PoP,

Do you know what happened to the shrine to Our Lady that was in front of the Sisters of Charity residence on Park Road (west of 16th)? I ran past it today and it looked like it got demolished, and not in a preordained kind of way. More like a smash and grab. I’d hate to think criminals were targeting these women. I volunteered with some of them down in Anacostia a couple months ago and they are easily some of the more dedicated, humble people I’ve met in DC. Not to mention their little front lawn area was easily one of the better kept in the neighborhood.

Their sign is gone from next to the door. I think they must’ve moved out. The new tenants might not have as much use for a shrine to Our Lady.”

Oh that’s really sad, I always enjoyed passing that shrine. I hope the Sisters have simply found new/better digs. Anyone know if/why they moved?
