Back in March 2011 I mentioned that a new global fusion restaurant hoped to come to 3605 14th St, NW bringing a mix of Asian/Indian/Latin ingredients. After a small delay getting permits in order, I’m happy to share the news that things are back on track. The name of the restaurant will be Mad Momos and if construction goes according to plans, they hope to soft open sometime in May. One more detail from the global fusion mix – beer. They also hope to open a small scale beer garden in the back patio.

Stay tuned for more details as construction progresses.

Dear PoPville,

Do you what is going on in the room above El Rinconcito II at 1326 Park Rd, NW? I live a few blocks away and I’ve recently noticed that you can see tables in the window on the first floor above the restaurant now At first I thought El Rinconcito II had expanded its seating area, but this morning there was a light on and a lit-up “Open” sign in the first floor window while El Rinconcito was shuttered up.

I’m happy to say that it is an expanding seating area for El Rinconcito II.

It’s not scuttlebutt for H St, NE. Yesterday, H Street Great Street shared the good word that The Daily Rider will be coming to 1108 H St, NE in the Spring.

The scuttlebutt goes to the possibility of a bike shop in the DCUSA mall in Columbia Heights. Ever since the Elwood Thompson’s debacle, it’s been tough to find out scuttlebutt for new tenants looking into the DCUSA mall on 14th St, NW between Irving and Park Rd. Thanks to a reader for sharing some promising leads they heard.

In addition to a bike shop, they hear a Lime Fresh Mexican Grill is looking as well as a DSW (which we’ve previously spoken about here.)

You like the idea of a Lime Fresh and/or a Bike shop coming to DCUSA in Columbia Heights?

Dear PoPville,

I was wondering if you knew anything about the new eatery that looks like it is ready to open on 14th (and Perry) Sherril’s Fish House or something like that. It has curtains up and looks like it is ready, but ready for what? Would be nice to have a good fish place in the neighborhood.

I’ve been keeping my eye on 3566 14th St, NW but haven’t seen much progress lately. A search reveals a Sherril’s Seafood House on Facebook from New Market, VA but they are unrelated. Anyone hear any scuttlebutt about this spot? Is the sign new? I’ll be sure to post more info as it becomes available.

Our last update on Coffy Cafe located at 3310 14th St, NW in Columbia Heights said they were hoping for a Jan. opening. I stopped in last Mon. and got a chance to take a look at the space. I’m happy to say that Coffy Cafe is hoping for a soft opening in a couple of weeks and a grand opening in Feb. Take a look at their menu here.

I was psyched to see that the space is much larger than I originally thought it would be. Obviously there are some finishing touches ongoing but I’m told the place is gonna be decked out with 50s/60s comfy furniture. Stay tuned for a proper preview soon.

Back in October 2009, the folks at Room 11 confirmed there were looking to expand into Jeans N Things located next door at 11th and Lamont St, NW.

Negotiations likely rivaled those of the Good Friday Accord but the glorious day has arrived! From a press release:

The owners of Room 11 (Ben Gilligan, Nick Pimentel, Paul Ruppert and Dan Searing) are pleased to announce they have signed a lease to take over the adjoining storefront at 3232 11th St NW, formerly Jeans ‘N’ Things. Construction will begin soon and the projected completion date is early summer. “The only regular complaint we get is that there are not enough seats” says Searing, “so we are looking forward to having more room to serve our loyal guests.”

I’d say this is the best news I’ve heard since, well, originally hearing about Room 11.

2012 officially off to a kick ass start!
