EL Atardecer Restaurant Coming to former DC Fish Carryout space in Columbia Heights

Back in Feb. 2013 I shared some scuttlebutt that a Mexican restaurant would be coming to the former DC Fish Carryout space [where MPD had previously found large quantities of crack cocaine] at the corner of 14th and Otis Place, NW. A recent liquor license posted out front says:

EL Atardecer Restaurant

New restaurant serving Salvadorean and Mexican cuisine with seating for 60 patrons. Total occupancy is 60. Sidewalk Café with seating for approximately 29 patrons.

They hope to be open Sunday through Saturday 7am-3am.

Updates when they get closer to opening.

Update on Tinto, Coming to Columbia Heights, Will be a Wine and Whiskey Bistro and Art Gallery

Last week I shared word that a new restaurant called Tinto would be opening up next Taqueria Distrito Federal at 3463 14th Street, NW in Columbia Heights. At the time, a liquor license application posted out front indicated that the restaurant would be South American Fusion. The owner reached out to me via email and says that was an old concept – actually the space will be:

“a wine and whiskey bistro and gallery. We will feature local art every 6 weeks, our menu is Mediterranean influenced tapas/small plates sourced from local farms.”

The goal is to open in late October. Updates as we get closer to the date.

Freecycle Fete in Columbia Heights this Saturday

When: Saturday, June 8th from 3pm-7pm

Where: Columbia Heights Civic Plaza/ Tivoli Square on the corner of Park & 14th (Columbia Heights)

Cost: Free

What’s Happening: Think of it as a garage sale where everything is free. Have stuff around your house you don’t need anymore? Bring it on down and set up “shop” on one of our tables. Looking for new treasures to furnish your pad? You’ll be sure to find them here. This is a chance to cleanse your closets without wasting what could be a friendly neighbor’s newest treasure. As if that wasn’t enough, we’ll have karaoke, pie eating contest, games, prizes, music (ahem- dancefloor, anyone?), and onsite food trucks.

The Hilltop Restaurant and Bar Looking for Neighborhood Support from those near 2737 Sherman Ave, NW

Back in January 2013 we learned of plans for a new restaurant and bar called The Hilltop, coming to the corner of Girard and Sherman Avenue, NW.

From owner Sam Jahanbeen:

The Hilltop needs your help! We’re going in front of the Board of Zoning Adjustments to get a special exception – it’s the final step that’ll allow us to open our (and your) new neighborhood restaurant. It’s an easy process but its very important that we show the neighborhood has our back. With that said, if you have moment – please print, sign, and return this letter of support (below). A new South American fusion restaurant called Tinto is coming to 3463 14th Street, NW in Columbia Heights. A liquor license posted out front says:

“New Restaurant to serve South American Fusion with occasional Live Music.
Summer Garden: 35 seats
Sidewalk café: 14 seats
Seating Capacity: 51. Total occupancy load: 99.”

It will be located right above Taqueria Distrito Federal. Updates as they get closer to opening.
