“Dear PoPville,

Throughout the summer our lovely home at Girard and 13th NW has been targeted by irresponsible dog owners who let/ lead their pets to defecate on the lawn in front of the property. I find and have to clean dog poop at various times throughout the week, ranging from 7 am to 7 pm. It’s just sad that someone would continuously abuse another person’s property like this and disregard both common courtesy and public health. If by any chance the person(s) responsible are reading this, I’d like to let them know that eventually they’ll be caught on camera, publicly shamed and dealt with by the law enforcement. I also wonder if others in the neighborhood have dealt with anything like this.”

Ed. Note: I wonder if the OP has been targeted or if there are just some incredible lazy/inconsiderate dog walkers who use this route?

I think the owner is a teacher (based on the notes in the notebook and the other books I’ve found with the notebooks), but I can’t find a phone number or name on any of the items. “On Friday, August 26, 2016, at 2:30 p.m., the Third District Crime Suppression Team responded to 14th and Girard Street, NW (Inside the park), in response to numerous drug complaints by concerned citizens. After a brief investigation four adult males were arrested for misdemeanor drug charges. One of the adults males was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm. This adult male was additionally charged with Carrying a Pistol without a License.”

Meridian Hill Park Fountain Update: “We hope to get the cascades up and running this week.”

Been getting tons of queries about the Meridian Hill Park fountain status – here’s an update from the National Park Service:

“We had to turn off the fountain over the weekend while we worked to repair a water main pipe that burst last week.

We also discovered an electronic issue is causing the fountain not to function properly – it isn’t regulating the incoming water quite right, and the automatic mechanism that shuts the pump down isn’t working, so if we let the fountain run unattended, there’s a chance it could pump itself dry.

The good news is, the pump is running properly, and we can separate the upper section from the lower cascades, so we’ve turned off the upper section and are running the lower section during the day while we work on fixing the issue. You will probably see National Park Service staff and the fountain specialists we’ve brought in working on the fountain if you’re in the park. We hope to get the cascades up and running this week.“
