Red Velvet Cupcakery and Tangy Sweet Frozen Yogurt are located right next to one another on 7th Street just north of E Street. I spoke briefly with Tangy Sweet owner Aaron Gordon who mentioned that his sister, Canada Gordon, actually owns Red Velvet. The cupcake pastry chef is David Guas who was selected as pastry chef of the year in 2004 by the restaurant association of Metropolitan Washington. There’s a lot more info on Web site.

Some of you may be familiar with Tangy Sweet’s Dupont Circle location. For fans of their frozen yogurt – to celebrate the Penn Quarter grand opening on Tuesday there will be free frozen yogurt and toppings from 4-8pm Tuesday, Dec. 23rd!

Check out the “Ticket Place” at 407 Seventh Street, NW between Chinatown and Archives. You can get tickets to “Theater, Dance, Music, Concerts, Lectures & more.” They are open Tuesday thru Friday from 11am – 6pm and Saturday 10am – 5pm. Or purchase tickets online here. Pretty cool, yeah?

This is the hardest post I have ever had to write. As many longtime readers know, I have a very (un)healthy love of Dunkin Donuts. Well, their coffee that is. But to put it mildly I’m a huge fan. Yet I must say it loudly: This sign is shit. D & D you are better than this. You know that. This is from their relatively new store in Chinatown on 7th Street. But a big corporation like Dunkin Donuts should regulate their signage, no? Let’s have a proper sign D & D, a sign worthy of the coffee you serve.

Lest, I give my mom a heart attack, I thought it was time to show a nice Temple. This one is located at 6th and I St., NW. After the jump check out some more details and find out if the Simpsons are Jewish? Um, don’t they go to church every Sunday? Anyway, I guess you can find out April 14th but you’ll see what I mean after the jump. (more…)

So maybe this is just in Chinatown, but I’m terrified of the GreenPeace solicitors. I certainly support those who wish to combat global warming but the fine folks from GreenPeace are far more aggressive than any panhandlers I’ve ever encountered. In Chinatown they work in twos and basically block the sidewalk and follow you for about 20 feet or so until finally in a fit of aggravation I say, “I voted for George Bush, God Damn it!”. I voted for Gore and Kerry just for the record. But, hell, these people are insane. I just want my PotBelly’s sandwich man. That’s all, let me through. A friend of mine just told me in the age of the internet that soliciting on the street is pretty ridiculous. And I agree. So the Friday question of the day is: Do you think the fine folks from GreenPeace are too aggressive in their soliciting campaign on the streets of DC?

Penn Quarter Living already wrote a post on this (and have a better picture than me) but I still think it needs more discussion. So without further ado, is Chinatown too bright? Have you been to Chinatown at night lately, it is like walking around in a football stadium it is so bright. Obviously it feels very safe this way, but is it too much? It is frankly a bit jarring. How do you feel about the 1000 wattage going on in Chinatown?

Ed note: I still call this area Chinatown and will always call it Chinatown, next they’ll want me to call Hell’s Kitchen – Clinton and I’ll never do that.
