I wanted to let you know that on December 7, local art students in Southeast DC will be unveiling their art designs on limited edition charity tote bags that will be available exclusively at Lidl’s Skyland store in DC. All sales from the bags, selling for $3.99 each, will be donated to Martha’s Table and will go to support the Joyful Food Markets, no-cost pop-up markets working to increase food access in more than 50 schools in Wards 7 & 8.”

“Lidl US, recently ranked a top U.S. grocer by USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, announced today that it will celebrate the grand opening of its newest store in Skyland Town Center in Southeast D.C. on Wednesday, September 28. The store, located at 2224 Town Center Dr SE, will operate daily from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. This will be the first full-service grocery store to open in Wards 7 and 8 in more than a decade. (more…)

“Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) joined leaders from Lidl to break ground on Lidl’s first store in Washington, DC located at Skyland Town Center. Lidl recently ranked a top 3 U.S. grocer by USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards and will be the first new supermarket to serve residents in Wards 7 and 8 in more than a decade. (more…)
From an email: “Garfield Elementary School is a vibrant school community located in Ward 8. With the decision by DCPS to extend distance learning and end the school year early, some of Garfield’s families are struggling with issues such as food insecurity, childcare, and healthcare needs. While we have been working hard to connect families with available resources, some need more immediate and direct assistance. One of Garfield’s community partners has started a GoFundMe to help the families during this incredibly difficult time. As a volunteer at Garfield for many years, I can tell you that these children come to school every day excited and ready to learn!
