“Sun-filled, spacious condo with PARKING in converted townhouse, steps to shops, restaurants, transportation, & more. 1,229 sq ft per condo docs, 2 bedrooms plus loft den, 2 full baths, open living room with vaulted ceilings & dining area, separate kitchen, master bath with separate shower & Jacuzzi tub, skylights, central air/heat, exposed brick walls, wood floors, pets welcome!”

You can find more info here and more photos here.

Well I guess I waited too long to post this one but I can see why it’s already under contract. I’m really digging the living room. Do you think $510,000 ($382.72 condo fee) was reasonable for this 2 bed/2 bath?

Volunteers Clean Walter Pierce Park in Adams Morgan

We last discussed the cemeteries at Walter Pierce Park here.

From an email:

The desecration of Washington’s largest post-Civil War African American cemetery continues today. National Park Service and Rock Creek Park officials are throwing large boulders and piles of dirt on to, and pounding wooden stakes into the west hillside of the Colored Union Benevolent Association cemetery site. They are doing this while one contract archaeologist with two days’ experience at the site–and apparently no knowledge of its history–monitors the work.

The fragility of this hillside cannot be overstated. It contains exposed and close-to-the-surface remains and grave artifacts.

Park officials have excluded the Walter Pierce Park Archaeology Team from the National Park Service-owned portion of the historic cemetery. They have refused to allow us to act as monitors or to conduct non-invasive ground-penetrating radar there. Our City Councilmember Jim Graham, Washington Parks & People, our neighborhood association (Kalorama Citizens Association), and our Adams Morgan advisory neighborhood commission (ANC-1-C) have all been rebuffed in their requests that the Walter Pierce Park Archaeology Team be part of an effort to protect the graves, while erosion on the hillside is contained.

Members of the Walter Pierce Archaeology Team have visited the site the past two mornings to announce their objection to what is taking place. The work continues as I write.

It is important that you–the DESCENDANTS, the SCHOLARS, the CONCERNED COMMUNITY–let National Park Service officials know immediately that you object to this dishonorable treatment of the Colored Union Benevolent Association Cemetery. The Director of the National Park Service is: Jon Jarvis, [email protected]; the Director of the National Capital Region is Peggy O’Dell, peggy_o’[email protected]; the acting superintendent of Rock Creek Park is Cindy Cox, [email protected] . Please note that the first and last names of each official is separated by an underscore line.

I will keep you informed,

Mary Belcher, community liaison to the Walter Pierce Park Archaeology Project

The Craigslist ad says:

“This beautiful efficiency apartment features:

– 525 Sq Ft of living space
– Parquet floors
– Enormous walk-in closet
– Dining/ office area off of kitchen
– Ceiling fan
– FREE utilities (gas, water, & electric)
– 24 hr Access to our fitness center”

I’ve been curious about apartments in this building. Does $1295 sound reasonable for this 525 Sq Ft Efficiency?

While I was following up on the new Wok and Roll Restaurant location on 18th Street, NW I happened to notice that the door to the old Caribou Coffee spot (across the street) was open. I walked inside and spoke to the new renters – Uptowner Cafe.

If the name sounds familiar it’s because they have a few locations around town including the relatively recently opened spot on 14th St, NW in the Tivoli Complex in Columbia Heights. I have to admit I’m a fan of the Columbia Heights location (they have Dr. Brown’s soda!).

They plan on opening up this Friday. Think they’ll make a nice addition to 18th Street?

Twitter user AliMcSherry spotted the good news earlier on Tues. Wok and Roll’s Web site says a new location is coming soon to 2400 18 St. NW (at Belmont). I took a look late Tues. afternoon and a lot of work was going on (though it didn’t look like the opening was imminent). This is the old Prince Cafe/ House of Kabob (and Hookah) spot. Over the past months, the entire building has been renovated.

Wok and Roll has a current location at 604 H St, NW in Chinatown. We judged that location here. I’ll be sure to update when an opening date is announced for the Adams Morgan location.

It looks like the building housing the Pharmacy Bar at 2337 18th Street, NW in Adams Morgan is for sale. I’m not sure what this means for Pharmacy Bar but it’s def. something I’ll keep my eyes on. I know Pharmacy Bar has a long history at this location and there are many many fans of their juke box. Stay tuned as more info becomes available.

“Dear PoP,

He still hasn’t turned up, though I got plenty of late night phone calls from drunk fuckers who saw my posters and decided it would be fun to make a cruel prank. I’m starting the reward at $500.”

Obviously the owner really loves their pet and while it is easy to joke this is pretty sad. So if you live in Adams Morgan/Mt. Pleasant look around a bit on your walk home and around the neighborhood. If you see the ferret email me directly and I’ll hook you up with the owner.

The condo fees are $162.77 and cover everything except electric (ie- building maintenance, gas, water, trash). It is steps from the L2 and all the 90 buses, as well as equidistant from U Street, Dupont Circle, and Woodley Park Metros.”

I do like the location. What do you guys think – does $224,500 sound reasonable?

Thanks to a reader for sending word and snapping a few photos of this great development. The reader writes:

“I saw a Permit sign in the small retail space on Columbia Road right by the BB&T at 18th Street, NW – it used to be a locksmith shop. Well, the sign shows it be slated to become a garden supply shop. That would be pretty sweet. The C of O sign lists the operating name as Urban Sustainable and the retail type as Garden retail.”

Looks like this is 1787 Columbia Road, NW.  I remember the locksmith because they used to have a sweet Dean Martin bobble head in the window. I look forward to checking out the garden store when they open!

UPDATE From their Web site:

“Urban Sustainable Supply is your one-stop shop for hydroponic and urban organic gardening. We carry complete hydroponic kits, hydroponic components, nutrients, gardening tools, High Intensity Dicharge lighting (high pressure sodium, metal halide), fluorescent grow lights, grow medias (soil, rockwool, hydroton, perlite, vermiculite, coco coir, etc) various diagnostic meters, home composting systems, 100% organic seed… virtually everything you need to turn your home, garden, or rooftop into a paradise urban sustainable gardening.”
