This rental is located at 2517 Mozart Pl, NW. Sadly no photos were provided but I’m intrigued by the price. The Craigslist ad says:

“2517 Mozart Pl, NW. One Bedroom Apt. – approx 620 sq. ft. with lots of light and many windows. Large full size kitchen (no dishwasher). Large Living Room. One bath. Washer/Dryer on first floor . Located a half block from 16th St and Meridian Park. Several blocks from the Columbia Heights metro and shopping. Several blocks from the new Adams Morgan Harris Teeter. Apt. located on the third floor. Tenant pays electric. Heat is radiator and included in rent.”

Think $1159 sounds reasonable for this 1 bedroom?

Arrest Made in Last Month’s Adams Morgan Shooting Homicide

About a month ago a reader wrote in about a shooting in Adams Morgan. Just wanted to share the news that an arrest has been made in this case. From an MPD press release:

“Metropolitan Police Department Homicide Detectives announced today an arrest has been made in the June 2010, fatal shooting of Victor Chigoziri MBA-Jonas, Jr., which occurred in the 2500 block of 17th Street, NW.

On Sunday, June 27, 2010, at 2:30 am, Third District officers responded to the 2500 block of 17th Street, NW, for the report of a shooting; upon their arrival, they located the decedent suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to and area hospital where he was admitted in critical condition. On Monday, July 19, 2010, at 2:25 pm, the decedent succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

On Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at approximately 8:30 am, members of the Homicide Branch arrested Torain Devon Adams, an 18 year-old male from Northwest, DC, and charged him with First Degree Murder while Armed in the fatal shooting of Victor Chigoziri MBA-Jonas Jr., a 20 year-old male from the 14000 block of 4th Street, Laurel, Maryland.”

Dear PoP – Adams Morgan Power Outage?

“Dear PoP,

I can’t find anything on this, but there was some sort of large power outage on and around 18th Street last night. Seems the bars south of Kalorama had firemen come to evacuate them. Had you heard anything? At the time we were told there was a fire at the transformer.”

I didn’t see anything at Pepco or from DCfireems. Anyone from Adams Morgan know what happened?

El Tamarindo Gets Oudoor Seating, Will Folks Use it?

El Tamarindo finally got their outdoor seating at 1785 Florida Ave, NW.

When I first wrote about them applying some thought they’d get denied or it’s just a poor place for outdoor seating. Do you still think this will not be a pleasant space to eat outside?

And it got me thinking about Churchkey/Birch & Barley’s outdoor seating at 1337 14th St, NW. Do you think this is a pleasant space to eat outside?

Do you think $479,000 sounds reasonable? If not, what do you think is a more realistic price?

Also worth noting, there is another garden floor condo at 1751 U St, NW with virtual tour here going for $324,900.

Muzette Karaoke is coming to the old Kokopolis spot at 2305 18th St NW in Adams Morgan. A sign recently went up and the entrance is starting to look nice which is promising since it used to look like this but now looks like this:

“Dear PoP,

I have noticed that the Heidi’s Brooklyn Deli at 1300 2nd St. N.E. has been closed now for about 5 weeks . I originally thought that maybe they were closed for vacation which they have done in the past,But tonight as I was walking by I spoke to a Security Guard for the ATF building where they are located and he said they have gone out of business. Well since the Constitution Cafe opened around the corner 145 N St N.E. their business had slowed to a crawl (Plus the food is a lot better than Heidi’s).”

Will anyone miss Heidi’s?

Judging Restaurants – La Fourchette

Given it’s Bastille Day, I thought I’d go with a French restaurant. La Fourchette is located at 2429 18th St, NW. La Fourchette also seems to have a crowd which I take as a good sign. Any fans out there? If so, any must order items? Also how are the prices?

And of course, Happy Bastille Day! French Maid races might be particularly interesting in the rain…

Dear PoP – Anyone sublet at Argonne or Chatham House?

“Dear PoP,

My boyfriend and I have decided to buy a house/condo, but will probably not find one before his lease runs out in August. So we’re looking for a place to rent while we look. We’ve pretty much narrowed it down to either the Argonne or Chatham House, both on Columbia Road, NW. But we’ll probably end up needing to sublet at some point during the year. Have you or any of your readers had experience with subletting at either of these buildings? Is it permitted, is there a high fee to transfer the lease, etc?”

Well the Argonne has the benefit of having a Pica Taco. Back in April an apartment at the Argonne was an afternoon rental option. Anyone have experience with the Chatham House? Anyone sublet from either?
