I’ve always been curious about this building:

Does $1375 sound realistic for this studio?

Photo by flickr user Scott Clark. Ed. Note: There is an amazing selection of Blockbuster closing pictures on flickr…

Crazy, I just walked through Adams Morgan this weekend and hadn’t noticed signs that both Blockbuster was closing and Crooked Beat Records were moving. Fortunately The 42 did notice. He said that the Blockbuster closing sign went up yesterday and also noted that Crooked Beat Records will be moving from its current location at 2318 18th St, NW.

I guess this means I’ll finally have to set up that Netflix account…though I bet this’ll be a good opportunity to pick up some really cheap VHS cassettes before Blockbuster closes their doors for good.

Here’s a good list of your favorite films and favorite foreign films.

“Dear PoP,

What do you know about a shooting last night in Adams Morgan at Euclid and Mozart. I live at the Dorchester, and due to renovations in the lobby have been using the Euclid entrance. Saw the crime scene tape. A little unnerving to say the least.”

Sadly there was a homicide. MPD released the following:

“On August 11, 2010, at approximately 9:11 PM, a male victim was shot in the 2500 block of Mozart Place, N.W. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was later pronounced dead. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Metropolitan Police Department at 202-727-9099.”

Unfortunately this is the second homicide this section of Adams Morgan has seen this summer. A few weeks ago we learned that an arrest had been made in the previous homicide at 17th and Euclid St, NW from June.

Based on yesterday’s comments – welcome a new PoP feature, The 5pm Post. It’ll change every week and per your suggestions will be a mix of philanthropic or simply fun things to do as well as random unique DC features. It’ll be a bit of a hodgepodge but if you have any suggestions or photos capturing DC pride please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com

Unfortunately, I’m gonna kick this off with a bit of sad news: A reader sends in word that there was an armed robbery at French’s Dry Cleaner, 3706 14th St NW, August 9.

“Dear PoP,

Are you interested in doing a little blurb on this business and encouraging people to use French’s for their dry cleaning and tailoring this week? I’d like to launch a one week campaign to show community support.”

So if you need some drycleaning/tailoring and live in the area, it would be a nice gesture to stop by French’s (right near Red Derby).

For those looking for fun philanthropic fundraiser happy hour – this is a good one in Adams Morgan:

City at Peace DC uses the performing arts to develop the skills, talents, and confidence of young people to promote cross-cultural understanding, conflict resolution, and violence prevention. For the last 15 years, this award-winning program has worked with more than 1,000 young people to build trusting relationships, achieve artistic excellence, and create lasting change in the lives of participants, their families, their schools, and their communities.

City at Peace’s programming is thriving despite the fiscal challenges facing our country. (Just this week we are teaming up with with Metro Teen AIDS and Mayor Fenty’s 2010 Summer Youth Employment Program for a city-wide street theatre tour.) Our books, however, are hurting. To keep City at Peace thriving, we must raise $25,000 by September 1. JOIN US for a special fundraising event featuring City at Peace cast, staff, and board members.

When: August 10, 2010 from 6:30pm-9:30pm

Where: Angles Bar and Billiards (2339 18th Street, NW)

What: City at Peace celebration

Why: Because City at Peace needs you and YOU need a City at Peace

Snacks will be provided. All drinks are 1$ off all night Adams Morgan’s
best hamburgers and pulled pork sandwiches are 2 for 1.

DC needs City at Peace. In 2008, nearly 4,500 DC youths were arrested for criminal activity and 92% of deaths of residents aged 10-24 were caused by homicide. DC’s high-school graduation rate is less than 50%. City at Peace participants are less likely to be caught up in violent crime, are more likely to graduate high school and to attend college. They also consistently report choosing career paths that, but for the program, they would not have considered within reach.

I had the pleasure of trying my first Fat Tire back in June at the Black Squirrel located at 2427 18th Street NW and I gotta say I was pretty impressed. So good news for fellow Fat Tire fans – from an email:

“There’s been such a huge demand for us to bring Fat Tire Amber Ale from New Belgium Brewery back, that we’ve gotten enough to last most of August. Therefore we’ve named August as Fat Tire Month. Along with Fat Tire, we also have these other beers from New Belgium Brewery: Mothership Wit, 1554 Enlightened Black Ale, and Ranger IPA. We’ve also brought back the brie-stuffed bison burger.”

Has anyone tried the bison burger?

This rental is located at 2517 Mozart Pl, NW. Sadly no photos were provided but I’m intrigued by the price. The Craigslist ad says:

“2517 Mozart Pl, NW. One Bedroom Apt. – approx 620 sq. ft. with lots of light and many windows. Large full size kitchen (no dishwasher). Large Living Room. One bath. Washer/Dryer on first floor . Located a half block from 16th St and Meridian Park. Several blocks from the Columbia Heights metro and shopping. Several blocks from the new Adams Morgan Harris Teeter. Apt. located on the third floor. Tenant pays electric. Heat is radiator and included in rent.”

Think $1159 sounds reasonable for this 1 bedroom?
