Thanks to a reader for sending the heads up about the new signage and help wanted sign that just went up for Sakuramen. Back in Jan. 2012 I mentioned that a new Ramen shop might be coming to the former Jumbo Slices and Kabob space at 2441 18th St, NW in Adams Morgan. Looks like it’s the real deal and close to opening. Their website says:

We’re just a couple guys who are passionate about ramen, which we feel is the ultimate comfort food, inspiring childhood memories of sharing with family and friends. Our sole focus is to create the best ramen on the planet, without using artificial flavorings of any kind, sourced from pure bone broth coupled with the freshest ingredients available.

We do NOT favor any particular style or cultural influence when it comes to our ramen dishes. With an unbridled approach to culinary creativity, we strive to deliver to you, our Customer, a unique dining experience that highlights a fusion of diverse flavors from across the globe. From ramen houses in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Seoul, to Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York, we are pleased to see that others love ramen as much as we do… and so we are especially proud to open our doors in Washington DC, in the heart of a city we love to call home.

You can see some photos of their ramen here. Stay tuned.

“Dear PoPville,

I saw this guy “Fiddling on the Roof” across from the Harris Teeter in Adams Morgan last night around 7:30. I chatted with his roommate who was down on the street, and he said he will be playing on his roof right before sunset every Sunday from now on, weather permitting. Pretty cool!”

Awesome.

Thanks to all who wrote in late last night/early this morning. This follows a suspected meth lab fire in Dupont that happened in early Feb. 2012. Last night IAFF36 tweeted around 10:15pm:

“Firefighters responding 1825 summit place Nw to assist MPD with a possible illicit drug lab investigation”

One reader writes:

“Seems like there’s some sort of meth lab bust at my apartment building – 1825 Summit Place NW. Outside of my window there are tons of firetrucks, blocking Clydesdale and in the Park East parking lot along with cop cars. Eventful Wednesday around here though.”

Another reader writes:

“Not sure if you’ve heard about the meth lab bust last night in Adams Morgan. I live in that building and it was pretty scary. I’ve attached a photo (above) I took from my 7th floor apartment while it was going down. The worst part about it was I saw them whisk a really small baby in a carrier out of the building before they brought the guy out in handcuffs. Apparently they found a 6 month old baby in the apartment! It also looked like a woman (the mother?) was also arrested. The cops and DEA were still swarming the building this morning when I left for work.”

Capitol Hemp first opened in Apr. 2008 at 1802 Adams Mill Road, NW in Adams Morgan. They opened their 2nd location in Apr. 2010 at 519 H Street, NW in Chinatown. In Oct. 2011 their stores were raided by MPD.

Yesterday store co-owner Adam Eidinger released a lengthy press release:

“Capitol Hemp, DC’s only source for high quality hemp clothing and accessories, should be celebrating its four-year anniversary since opening its doors on April 20, 2008. Instead, the company, which employs ten people, begins the arduous task of permanently closing down its Adams Morgan (1802 Adams Mill Rd, NW) and Chinatown (519 H St, NW) stores on August 1, 2012.”

Continues after the jump. (more…)

In June 2011 MiG Bar opened above Rendezvous Lounge at 2226 18th St, NW in Adams Morgan. I had been hearing rumblings that they’ll be closing in their current space and I just received a confirmation this morning:

Ahoy, friends. We will be closing our doors April 30th at our current location with aspirations of reopening elsewhere by the latter part of the year. Thanks to all for what has been nothing short of a maelstrom of support, and we encourage you with due zeal to swing on through and get soaked with us before we dangle.

As for right now, Mr. MiG’s feeling particularly trigger-happy so pop in tonight (Tuesday) for $4 Moscow Mules and $3 cans of “quantity beer” from 6pm ‘til close (or until someone tosses a cat in the moon jump)… Until then, compadres.

Stay tuned for word on their new location.

It’s been a rough couple of weeks trying to navigate 18th and Harvard St, NW. Thanks to a reader for sending the photo. They write:

“First the great tractor trailer crash last week, now this! My intersection sure is busy this week.”

Another reader writes:

“Also, looks to be a couple (of sorts, a guy and girl). The girl has just been cuffed.”
