From an email:

“The DC Public Library has released a new video highlighting their artistic and cultural programs – including concerts, the maker-space and even dance parties – as part of their #LoveDCPLGive campaign. The music featured is by local band, Puff Pieces.

The video showcases many of the fun and interesting events they have put on this year in effort to become a central part of D.C.’s burgeoning art scene. DCPL has something to offer everyone in the community ranging from babies who attend story time to artists who perform at live shows to seniors looking to acquire computer skills. With the video the library hopes to encourage District residents to give back to the city and their city’s library by making a contribution to DCPL, which they can do here.”

From an email:

“It’s a lecture about Harry Potter! Wednesday, July 29, 7pm at the Shaw Library [1630 7th St. NW]. (It also coincides with his birthday, which is the 31st!)

Description:
Birthdays have a special significance in the world J.K. Rowling has created. Hagrid doesn’t reveal that Harry is a wizard on just any day of the year, and every witch and wizard looks forward coming of age on their 17th birthday if for no other reason than that they are finally allowed to do magic outside school. Join us for a conversation about the significance of birthdays, especially Harry’s, in the wizarding world. Birthday cake and butterbeer will be served!

ASL interpreters will be present.

Tolonda Henderson is a librarian at George Washington University. She has presented her work on the library at Hogwarts at several academic conferences and is currently researching Harry Potter and disability studies.”
