Thanks to Randy for passing on:

So, Harris Teeter, Whole Foods, Giant, Safeway or Trader Joe’s?

1440 P Street, NW

“Dear PoPville,

Not sure if you’ve heard the rumor that the 14th/P WholeFoods will be moving to Florida Avenue once the current lease is up. One of the employees told me the landlord wants to turn the current space into condos and won’t be renewing the lease. The employee I know seemed to think there will be a gap in service and was worried about their job…”

Ed. Note: THIS IS A RUMOR. Having said that, we learned of Trader Joe’s opening on 14th Street from a Trader Joe’s employee in Foggy Bottom. Nobody originally believed that scuttlebutt. Having said that it is way too early to panic so, STAY TUNED.

Last week we learned the hours. Thanks to Greg for sending a bit more:

“I just accosted a couple of workers leaving the space (where construction has really ramped up), and they said they expect to open in 3 or 4 weeks.

Thought you should know!”

Sweet. This is the old Glen’s Garden Market space. Stay tuned for an exact opening date.

Thanks to Arianne for sending:

“There was a rally to save the metro k market in Adams Morgan last night.

The landlord has jacked up the rent. Many people have signed the petition to have them stay.”

The Washington CityPaper reports:

“Borger Management’s Joe Borger wrote to say, “I am happy to report that we have an executed lease with a grocer for 1864 Columbia Road NW.” That grocer is not Metro K Supermarket.”

Updates when we learn more.

Ed. Note: Earlier in the month we learned from The Grill From Ipanema (located next door):

“We have two lots of restaurant space in that building and we have decided to lease/sell one. But we will remain at 1858 Columbia Rd with cozy and intimate restaurant.”

Sam, and others, ask: “does anyone know why it has smelled like the zoo outside of the p street Whole Foods for the past month???”

Back in April 2015 the malodorous mystery first reared its ugly head on P Street. At that time DC Water told us it was due to a “clogged sewer line” and took a few days to fix. Perhaps the same issue?
