Regular readers may recall my obsession of banana trees. If you know of any good ones around town send the locale my way! This one is always great near the Convention Center, I think on M St, NW.

Here’s a great wild one near the Old Soldier’s Home.

The flower boxes in front of Veranda (11th and P Streets, NW) are in full effect.

A great porch garden here.

This balcony garden on 16th St, NW overlooking Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park is spectacular.
And a few floors up is hell of a great spot for a cup of coffee.

I think this is the garden someone requested when we were admiring the Columbia Heights’ banana tree/sandbox.

Well the Marion St. Garden is just starting to take shape (it’s new) but I wanted to give them some props. Coincidentally the same group that runs the Marion St. Garden also runs the Girard Park Garden and they, City Blossoms will be hosting a Garden Fiesta June 24th:

I’m so glad my favorite Banana tree/sand box has returned to Columbia Heights.

There are a few things I’m incapable of just walking by – sweet fire escapes, carriage houses and tiered gardens.

Here’s another perennial favorite from Columbia Heights. At first glance it just looks like two strips of flowers but on closer inspection you can see there are a number of varieties and they’re really nicely spaced. I actually ran into the owner and his wife and he had a funny comment. He says to me that he gardens now because he can’t play sports anymore so now gardening is his sport. I thought that was awesome.
