Pedro Chavez is looking for the community’s support in his opening of Kikos, a restaurant that would reside on Quincy and Spring Road, East of 14th Street.  The place would be a rotisserie chicken restaurant that would seat about 50 and would also have delivery and pickup.  He said the food would also be on the healthy side and the establishment would be a family oriented one.  He hopes to open in December.  He needs your support.  More on Church parking, CVS, “Stinky” Safeway and 16th Street Heights Parks after the jump. From a reader:

“I wonder if you would be willing to post some information about this great fundraising auction for Street Sense that just happens to be the same night as the VP debate. Tons of folks are planning to watch the debates, I know, but the auction starts at 7, so people could swing by on their way to watching the debate and place a few bids. We’ll let them know if their bids carry the day. It is a great cause, and the support would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve been telling friends that if they attend and watch the debate later, they can consider their DVR fees to be a benevolent expense.

The event is in our neighborhood at the Josephine Butler Park Center, just across from Meridian Hill / Malcolm X Park.”

Sadly/happily I’ll be attending the Jenny Lewis concert at the 6th and I Synagogue but if you are looking for a spot to watch the VP debate – in addition to Red Derby and Red Rocks you can also catch it at Haydee’s in Mt. Pleasant. Mt. P ANCs will also be present. More details about the Haydee’s event after the jump. (more…)

“The reason I’m writing is a huge bummer, but I think some of your readers may be able to help this family in some way. Please check out my friend Jeff’s blog post about Marisol Caceres, the 12-year-old girl who was murdered last week, and how her family is in need of some support from the community:

http://www.andiamnotlying.com/2008/goodbye-marisol-caceres/

It would mean a lot to her family and friends if you posted something about their situation on your blog. Your readers are probably community-oriented and this could be a help to Marisol’s family.”

Now I don’t ask for a lot of favors but I’m going to ask one now. Please participate in this great program if you have the means. Even if it helps one child find the right path it’ll be well worth it!

If you were wondering how to make a difference – this seems like a great start!

From a reader:

“I’m helping to start a new DC nonprofit called Capitol Letters Writing Center (www.capitolletters.org) dedicated to teaching creative writing and other kinds of writing workshops for kids aged 6-18. This spring we held our first workshops, and we are running a few different ones this summer. Eventually, we plan to open a space of our own in Columbia Heights and offer workshops and after-school tutoring there.

I’m writing because we’re hosting trivia night at Looking Glass Lounge this Thursday with the goals of 1) having fun, 2) raising our profile, and 3) meeting smart, engaged people who’d be interested in volunteering with us. We held a happy hour event at Looking Glass back in May and it was great, and of course trivia night is always a blast, so this should be a rockin’ good time. “
