From a press release:

A reader passes on from the Adams Morgan for Reasonable Development:

“Since our October gathering at Madam’s Organ, the SaveOurPlaza team has been quite busy preparing for our upcoming legal trial. In April 2018, a jury of twelve peers will determine the fate of the Suntrust plaza permanently. They will decide whether the plaza stays open and available for free public use or is crushed by more luxury condos and stifling the air and clogging the pedestrian/transit area at the corner of 18th and Columbia Road NW in the center of Adams Morgan.

From a press release:

“MRP Realty, developers of commercial, residential, and mixed-use real estate across the Washington Metropolitan region, and Ellis Development Group, in partnership with JBG SMITH, have broken ground on their new mixed-use development, The Wren, located at 965 Florida Avenue NW. The celebratory event took place on November 30, and included remarks by Mayor Bowser.

The Wren is a 289,686-square-foot development in the Shaw neighborhood. The building features 433 residential units, of which 132 units will be affordable. Along with best-in-class amenities, The Wren will be a LEED Silver Certified building with solar panels providing a portion of the building’s energy. Anchoring the ground floor will be a 43,406-square-foot Whole Foods–the seventh location of the grocery retailer in the District and its first store in the District since being purchased by Amazon. “Dear PoPville,

I noticed walking by the Sursum Corda housing coop on 1st St NW that a large amount of the units, including all of the units facing west, have just recently been boarded up. Check out the pics attached.

Could this finally mean the end of Sursum Corda? The last I heard back in May, the redevelopment project was still looking for a new source of financing after Winn Development Co. backed out of the deal. But I haven’t heard any updates since.

Perhaps with the Temple Courts site redevelopment moving forward, there will be an increased focus on moving the Sursum Corda redevelopment along?”

Ed. Note: Regarding Temple Courts, from Councilmember Charles Allen’s office yesterday:

“In 2008, the District tore down Temple Courts amid poor housing conditions for residents that needed housing. The New Communities Initiative was launched and after a long wait, progress is now being made on a promise to rebuild. This important proposal includes 517 affordable units reserved for DC families split between those earning up to 30% of AMI and up to 60% of AMI. (more…)

1125 Spring Road, NW

From Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner Bennett Hilley:

“Please see the attached flyer (info copied below) for the first of two community meetings to get community feedback and discuss next steps for the former Hebrew Home/1125 Spring Road. Apologies for the short notice; however, there will be another meeting held with the same format/information that will occur later this month if you cannot attend the one this Saturday.

While everyone is welcome, this meeting will be focused on getting input from residents, businesses, and other institutions that are located near the development. Since the development plan has already been selected, the discussion will be focused on aspects of the development that will directly impact the surrounding area, including traffic/parking, building design, and community amenities.
