A reader asked for a status update on Dave’s Tavern which we first learned about back in September. Unfortunately there was nobody there I could speak with but you can sorta tell from the photo that it looks like they still have a little ways to go before opening. Though I do think it’s a positive sign that they’ve acquired some kitchen equipment.

Lots of folks are curious about the imminent arrival of this new spot. You can see all the awesome construction updates on a blog run by Room 11 partner Paul Ruppert, which is aptly named Room 11-Coming Soon. There are already some great shots on the site (including the one above). I didn’t think I could possibly get more excited about this project…

I am an unabashed lover of Dunkin Donuts so I’m pretty excited about this possibility. However, I also dig sushi so I’m a bit torn. I noticed some construction workers inside and inquired if they knew who was coming in. They told me that Dunkin Donuts, a sushi restaurant and other potential restaurants had looked at the spot. One guy said that the first one to put money down will get it.

So all things considered which would you prefer? Of course “other restaurants” is a little vague but that’s all I could get!

This is the spot where the new bar called Meridian Pint will be opened by Aslyum owner, John Andrade. Any predictions on when you think it’ll be finished? Seems like they’re making good progress now as the lower level has been fully dug out.

A reader writes:

“I have a question about the “work in progress” on the northeast corner of 12th and S NW. There was a lot of activity rebuilding the house for a period of time but it has not sat abandoned for months. Even the fence has fallen down. What’s going on with this property? It looked like it was close to being finished.”

Sadly, when I went over there this weekend to snap the photos there was not a soul around to ask. From this photo:

It certainly looks like they were going to be condos. And it does look super close to being finished. I wonder if the developer ran out of money. Anyone know the scoop here?

Thanks to a reader for sending:

“So, I noticed that a new Gelato store is going into the Metropole’s empty retail space next to Lulu Lemon.

http://washington.bizjournals.com/washington/stories/2008/06/23/story10.html

There’s now a sign up in the window though. Pintango Gelato coming soon!”

The Washington Business Journal wrote back in June:

“”It’s basically going back to the original gelato where it’s a very simple and wholesome dessert, without coloring,” [Noah] Dan said. Prices will range from $4.77 for a regular portion to about $6 for a large serving, big enough for two people, he said. All the gelato will be made in-house, using organic and locally farmed ingredients.”

Any gelato fans out there? How does it differ from regular ice cream?

A little over a month ago we took a look at this building on the east side of 14th and Florida. While I still like the angles I’m not so sure about the choice of brick. It seems to be getting bricked with that light tan color. I’m not really a big fan of this style. You guys?

On a related note, on the west side of 14th and Florida the sidewalk has reopened!

I received the following awesome email:

“The Office of Planning, in coordination with the National Capital Planning Commission and the District Department of Transportation, are working on a re-visioning of the North Capitol Street Cloverleaf interchange at North Capitol Street, NW and Irving Street, NW.

We are in the process of doing a study to test other design options, such as a traffic circle, for that location and looking at how these changes affect neighborhood character.

We could really use help getting the word out to younger residents of Petworth, Bloomingdale, Brookland, Eckington, Park View, Pleasant Hills, and Pleasant Plains. We are hosting a community workshop on Saturday, March 14, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (at the Pryzbyla Great Room , Catholic University Student Center, 620 Michigan Ave, NE) to ask for community input on what they’d like to see happen at this interchange.

(http://planning.dc.gov/planning/cwp/view,a,1354,q,645949.asp). It is an opportunity for residents to help create a vibrant, Dupont Circle-like area east of the park.”

Wow, this sounds like a phenomenal development. So my question is two fold. Do you think a “Dupont Circle-like area east of the park” is realistic? Secondly, as I’m a huge fan of all the circles in DC, I’m wondering if there are other fans of DC’s circles? I know some folks don’t like them because of driving issues. What do you think – do you dig them?

This is the newly refurbished spot next to Marvin on 14th and U. I ran into one of the construction managers who told me the name of this spot will be Patty Boom Boom. It’ll be a night club/restaurant. The construction manager told me that it still has a long ways to go before it opens. I’ll update as more info becomes available.
