“Dear PoPville,

I live in a two-unit condo and have had a very difficult relationship with our one and only neighbor. I tried to keep it as civil as possible and avoid conversation unless absolutely necessary, but there are times when I am extremely frustrated or disappointed ( I am sure my neighbor too is). Any advice how to manage a small HOA and if there comes a point where the two parties cannot agree on important issues, what should one consider doing?”

Anyone know of professional mediation services in D.C.?

“Dear PoPville,

My husband and I need to move from our 9th Street rental as it is being sold and are looking for a new rental that allows rabbits. We have four house rabbits and while I have found quite a few “pet friendly” places, they are really only friendly for dogs and cats. In order to find something in a reasonable time frame, we would like to use a realtor to reduce the stress of this already stressful situation. I am looking for suggestions of real estate agents or realtors or whatever they are called who knows the Petworth, Takoma, Takoma Park, Silver Spring areas who will deal with the tenant side of renting.”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m concerned about the quality of construction and noise insulation of new apartment and condo buildings. This picture shows the progress at the corner of Sherman and Barry Pl, NW. After the first couple floors, there is no concrete between floors. It looks as if the people who will live in this building will be able to hear their neighbor(s) talk, cough, walk, etc. What rules are developers bound by, if any, to ensure adequate insulation? From my experience, I had less noise problems when I lived in older, art deco buildings in town.”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m looking for volunteer opportunities for my 15 y.o. which are part of consequences for consuming alcohol with friends on two occasions. Happy to consider all suggestions though either several hours a day for a week (note the summer is here!), a couple of weekends, or a few hours one day a week for a couple of month type options are of most interest. I hope it would encourage him to continue for longer, but the main aim is for him to have the experience of doing something for someone other than himself (as those with teens will know at this stage of their development a big focus is defining who they are in their world – so plenty of self focus!).

Any thoughts?”

“Dear PoPville,

I am trying to get a sanity check on a price quote we received for surveying our property lines and obtaining a fence permit. It took us forever to even get a surveyor to get back to us so we only got one quote. I was wondering if you might be willing to post this on POPville to see if anyone has any feedback on whether the quote is reasonable.

We were quoted $1,200 for a field run survey of our property (a row house in NW DC) and to mark our rear lot lines for construction of a fence.
We were quoted $1,000 for this same company to prepare and submit applications and packages to obtain permits from the city pertaining to construction of the fence.

I’ve got no frame of reference for the survey quote so have no idea whether it’s reasonable. But charging me $1,000 just to go through the fence permitting process sounds like I’m being fleeced and/or somebody’s palms are getting greased. Could it really cost that much to get this done? Appreciate any feedback on this.”

“Dear PoPville,

Recently my boyfriend parked my car- and forgot to read the signs. The car was towed and re-located, and a ticket was issued for a parking infraction as well as for the relocation. Looking at the tickets it was a total of 8 minutes between the initial ticket and tow ticket. This, to me, seems totally unreasonable. Is there a law on the books that states a timeframe that must pass between the original ticket being issued and a tow taking place? If so, as my boyfriend is not the owner of the car, would we be able to fight this?”

“Dear PoPville,

I recently read an article in Dcist titled “Mumbo Sauce is the Blood that Keeps DCs Heart Flowing.”

Ed. Note: Despite this question, which I believe is genuine and comes from a good place, the white people in the above video are not representative of all white people in DC. Some are quite fond of Mambo sausages Mumbo sauce. The video is of course real people but almost Portlandian in the portrayal.

I’ve never had mumbo sauce, nor even seen it offered. I’ve heard about it, and seen articles, but I have never come across it.

I can’t say I’ve ever actively looked for it, but I can’t say that I actively avoided it either. I’ve just simply never seen it offered anywhere. From what I understand, it’s mostly found at take out/carry out places, and I’ve been to a few over the years, to no avail.

Was wondering if readers had any suggestions of must-try places that offer it!

Be sure to tune in next week for our tutorial on Go-go.
