Fleurir Chocolates located at 3235 P St, NW is in this month’s Food & Wine magazine (Jan. ’12.) There’s a brief article titled, “Chocolate Case Study” that shows how much it costs to open a Chocolate boutique in Georgetown. I was surprised to learn monthly rent and utilities was “only” $2,775 per month.

From a press release:

“On December 1st, owners of Treasury Vintage, Cathy Chung & Katerina Herodotou will take over Adams Morgan vintage boutique, Meeps. The name and location will stay, with a promised new energy and focus. Since its days as a petite hideaway for the city’s hippest hunters to its welcome expansion in Adams Morgan, Meeps has held a special place in the hearts and history of DC’s vintage retail community. Meeps’ reputation as the go-to vintage clothing spot has only grown as the shop represented distinctive expertise in local and national media.

After four years of participating in the thriving vintage scene in Washington D.C., first with pioneering pop-up shop Listopad in 2007 and then, since 2009, with their acclaimed 14th Street vintage boutique Treasury, Cathy Chung and Katerina Herodotou are thrilled to carry on the Meeps legacy. Having been avid shoppers of Meeps, they are excited to add their own contemporary curatorial touch to the newly envisioned space.

Meeps will continue to offer the freshest selection of the best affordable casual vintage, with plenty of playful gems for parties, costumes and special events. Starting in early 2012, Meeps will begin a Buy-Sell-Trade system that will enable a rotating selection of gently used items from current designers and popular retailers. The new Meeps will expand its fashionable reach by offering hand-picked current and vintage items side-by-side. Local designers will still be represented in-shop, and, new artists and designers are encouraged to get in touch. Plans for a shop redesign are in place for 2012. Next year will mark Meeps’ second decade in the District and Chung and Herodotou are so happy to be able to continue the Meeps legacy for many years to come.

Please join us to celebrate this new era of Meeps next Tuesday, December 6! Our launch party will feature DJs Baby Alcatraz (Smashing Time) and Sara (Kicks!, Pow Wow), sparkling drinks and snacks from 5 PM to 9 PM. We talked a little bit about Filene’s stores closing when we spoke about TJ Maxx coming to 13th and F St, NW. I just noticed that the Filene’s at 1133 Connecticut Ave, NW (pictured above) is now listing going out of business sales. (There were guys with signs up and down Connecticut Ave on Sat.) Filene’s is also located at 529 14th Street NW in the National Press Building and 5300 Wisconsin Ave, NW in Friendship Heights. If anyone stopped by – how are the sales?

Payless Shoes is located at 1777 Columbia Rd, NW. Not sure if you can tell from the photos but this is a beautiful building. Lots of potential here given the prime location. It’ll be very interesting to see who takes over this space. I wonder if it’ll go the Game Stop route or the Mintwood Place route?

Planned Ft. Totten location

The Washington Post broke the news last night:

“Besides Skyland, the other new site is in Fort Totten in Northeast, where a Wal-Mart will fill the first floor of an apartment development called Fort Totten Square.

Wal-Mart previously announced plans for stores at a former car dealership on Georgia Avenue NW in Ward 4; at East Capitol and 58th streets in Ward 7; at New York Avenue and Bladensburg Road NE in Ward 5; and as part of a new mixed-use development on New Jersey Avenue NW in Ward 6.”

You can see a map of all the locations here.
