15th and D St, SE

Thanks to a reader for sending word. Though sadly,

“Got there at 330pm and they were sold out. Good sign for them, but was not willing to wait until 4:30pm when the next batch was ready. Gave them a friendly hard time.”

A luckier reader writes:

“New pretzel bakery on capitol hill — I’ve tried them and they are delicious!”

But there is also good news for those going out on U Street tonight. Dodge City is celebrating their 2 year anniversary tonight and they write:

“Dodge City is turning Two! On Monday, April 23rd help us celebrate our terrible birthday with beer specials from DC Brau, our new friends the Pretzel Bakery, and of course 13th St Meats on the grill. DJ’s Art Attack and Marshall Law will be manning the decks downstairs while the boys of Duchess of Pork spin the hits late into the night upstairs. It’ll feel like a Saturday night at the beginning of the week! The fun starts at 6 PM at 917 U St. NW.”

Woodley Park’s old CVS at 2616 Connecticut Ave NW officially closed and the new one opened on Sunday morning on the corner of Connecticut and Calvert St, NW. No word yet on who will move into the former CVS space. Stay tuned.

Thanks to a reader for sending a heads up that the “Deli” (there was also a sign on the door saying Breeze Bakery Cafe) underneath Pho DC had opened up at 608 H St, NW in Chinatown. It is operated from the folks at Pho DC and will serve steamed buns, bubble tea, smoothies, prepared foods and some other sundries. They were still stocking up when I stopped by yesterday but I’m eager to try the steamed buns. We’ll revisit for a proper judging after they’ve been open for a bit.

From a press release:

The District’s first indoor cycling and barre studio will open to the public on Friday, May 11, 2012.

Biker Barre will offer exhilarating, body-changing, and music-driven fitness classes – both on bikes and at the ballet barre.

Biker Barre is a first of its kind studio on the Hill. Offering intense, music-driven classes on bikes and at the barre, Biker Barre’s barre and cycling classes are offered separately, but can be combined for an incredible body-changing experience. Like a real “biker bar” we hope you come early and stay late, enjoying our relaxing and chic environment, free wifi, and lots of great conversation…after you stop sweating that is.

What makes Biker Barre so unique?

· The Studio
o Biker Barre will have two separate spaces built expressly for indoor cycling and barre classes, with no detail spared. From lighting to sound to equipment to amenities, we are bringing the best of the best to our customers.

· It’s Personal
o Classes at Biker Barre will be intentionally intimate to ensure that every guest gets the experience they are paying for…and room to breathe while they are at the studio.

· The Vibe
o Much like a real “biker bar,” we want to encourage customers to come early and stay late, enjoying our relaxing and chic environment, free wifi, and lots of great conversation…after they stop sweating of course.

Biker Barre will be located at 738 7th Street SE, two blocks from the Eastern Market Metro, next to 295, and right behind Barracks Row.

The Workouts

Indoor Cycling – Biker Barre will offer the highest quality cycling classes in the region. Cycling burns up to 800 calories an hour, which means busy Washingtonians will get the most impact in the least time.

Barre – The perfect counter point to the intense cardio workout cycling delivers. Barre classes at Biker Barre are inspired by pilates, dance, and yoga with an emphasis on movements that will tone and strengthen your entire body in no time, while making sure you never get bored.

Last week I shared some scuttlebutt from a reader saying that Columbia Heights’ Best Buy was on the list of 50 Best Buys that will close. False alarm, false alarm. Thanks to everyone who sent in links from Best Buy’s PR department. One reader summed it up best:

“Looks like our local Best Buy is in the clear, whether that’s good or bad is up for debate of course.”
