From a press release:

Effortless elegance is coming to Georgetown. EastBanc, Inc. and Jamestown announced today that Calypso St. Barth — the upscale women’s apparel and luxury home furnishings retailer — has signed a ten-year lease to occupy the retail space at 3307 M Street NW in its Georgetown Renaissance portfolio. The expansive 2,718-square-foot showroom space will serve as the store’s first DC location and will replace the current double occupants AT&T Wireless and Salon Rafik. Calypso St. Barth will aim for a grand opening in early spring 2014.

Loved by women of all ages, Calypso St. Barth combines exquisite textures, rich colors and special embellishments to offer a refreshing sense of escape. Founded in 1992, the brand has grown from a modest resort-wear boutique to a luxury lifestyle brand, including an exotic home collection.
The home collection features pieces by contemporary American and European designers and mixes natural textiles from around the world to transform any living space into an effortlessly chic haven.

The Calypso St. Barth retail space is a prime commercial streetscape property in Georgetown’s M Street corridor. Augmenting the collection of distinguished designer brands currently located in the EastBanc and Jamestown Georgetown Renaissance portfolio, Calypso St. Barth will round out the retail quarter as DC’s ground zero of modern fashion, furniture and lifestyle goods.

The Calypso St. Barth lease agreement is part of the recent surge of Georgetown Renaissance leasing activity that includes deals with popular home retailers such as CB2 and West Elm and luxury fashion retailers such as Intermix. The Calypso St. Barth deal also confirms Georgetown’s movement westward toward stylish lifestyle brands and will balance the current mix of fashion tenants – Intermix, Bonobos, Babette, Relish, City Sports and The North Face – with women’s well-appointed apparel.

Back in Jan. we heard some scuttlebutt that Immortal Beloved Hair Salon would be moving into Muleh’s retail space at at 1831 14th Street, NW. Last week Muleh quietly opened in their new space a few storefronts away at 1821 14th St, NW in the former Lux Design Store. Looking good:

A worker inside Muleh says that Immortal Beloved will move into their old space after an extensive renovation.

The Bloomingdale blog highlights this brutal yelp review from Sept. 2011:

Walking in here will make you feel like you’ve crossed into another dimension, one in which both time and logic ceases and thousands of years of human advancement towards what is considered civilized behavior is suddenly negated for no apparent reason whatsoever.

You’re greeted by a cop as you walk in and that sets the tone for the type of ride that you’ve unknowingly been in line for since you egressed from your mother’s womb: the world is unstable and this place reeks of crack smoke and decades of failed domestic policies.

All CVS’s are, by default, limited to one star. The lines take forever, everything is overpriced, the CVS card and brand of products are terrible, and the goods and provisions offered are always peculiar.

This store, however, is a social sciences experiment and is brilliant as such. I avoid this place with all of my heart, yet my mind is sadistically drawn here to catch a chaotic glimpse of how close humanity toes a line protecting us from madness.

Is it really that bad?

Back in Feb. 2013 confirmed some scuttlebutt that a Billy Reid clothing store would be moving into the former Pizzeria Uno space at 3211 M Street, NW. They open Friday. From the Georgetown BID:

This Friday, May 10th, Billy Reid is opening a new store in Georgetown at 3211 M Street, NW. The multi-level store will include curated areas focused on unique elements within the collection such as the Women’s collection, The Made in the USA Heirloom line and even a space for made-to-measure services. Known primarily for his menswear collections, Reid won both the CFDA Award for Best New Designer and the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award in 2010. His style is particularly reflective of his southern roots, with an emphasis on casual sportswear crafted with exceptional tailoring, while reflecting a true “homespun” feel.
