Thanks to a reader for sending word:

“This will be of interest to about ten people since that’s the approximate number of covers they were averaging.

The restaurant’s web site went dark July1 because the registration was not renewed.

Food was mediocre at best.”

Firelake Grill opened in the old Ruby Tuesday space at Van Ness and Wisconsin Ave, NW back in Sept. 2013. Before their website expired [their Facebook page also hasn’t been updated since April] it said:

“Firelake Grill, a new contemporary American restaurant by Fired Up Grills Restaurant Group, offers guests a comfortable, upper casual dining experience in the heart of Tenleytown. Most of our handcrafted cuisine at Firelake is prepared using a live hickory wood grill. Our mission is to create pleasurable and memorable moments, in a warm and friendly environment for our guests, our staff and our partners.”

When we talked about Taan closing in Adams Morgan last week, a few folks mentioned the relatively new Donburi in the comments. Donuburi opened up back in November of last year.

Their facebook page says:

“Serving Japanese rice bowls in the heart of Adams Morgan, D.C.

NEW BUSINESS HOUR:
11:00AM – 10:00PM
DAILY

Stop by the restaurant whenever you feel like.
We will be here everyday
with the food that we make with a lot of love and care”

You can see their menu here. Any fans? Any must order rice bowl?

Back in May we learned the 19th Street Crumbs Bake Shop had closed and things weren’t looking good. Now the Wall Street Journal reports:

“Crumbs Bake Shop Inc. notified employees Monday that it would be closing all of its stores at the end of the business day, a spokeswoman for the New York-based cupcake maker said.”

Crumbs remaining DC stores were located at 604 11th Street NW (F Street) and in Union Station.

Back in Feb. we learned Richard Sandoval’s Mango Tree was likely coming to CityCenter – they’ve now applied for a liquor license that says:

“Restaurant that will be serving Thai Food. There will be entertainment with occasional dancing and a Sidewalk Café. There are 213 seats with a total occupancy load of 239. The sidewalk café has seating of 36.”

Hours are listed as Sunday through Thursday 7 am – 2 am, Friday and Saturday 7 am – 3 am.

The space is located at 925 H St, NW right next to the new video art screen which, incidentally, is absolutely awesome:

From a press release:

“Granville Moore’s Professional Intoxicator, Matt LeBarron, is curating a summer-long beer tasting series every Tuesday night at the upstairs bar, starting on Tuesday, July 8th. Designed more for entry-level craft beer drinkers, or those new to the Belgian craft scene, participants will have the chance to explore several different beers each week in an intimate and relaxed setting.

Over the course of eight weeks, Matt will explore different breweries and styles of beer at the upstairs bar. Since space is limited, each week will include two one-hour sessions at 6:30pm and 8:30pm for up to eight people per session. Classes cost $25 per person, including tax and gratuity, which covers tastes of four beers from that week’s theme paired with snacks from Granville’s kitchen. Reservations are required and can be made online.

The 2014 Tuesday Tastings with the Intoxicator Schedule (beers subject to change) (more…)

A very good source hears that Chaia (vegetarian tacos) is looking to open up their first brick and mortar location in Georgetown. Their website says:

“We are honored to be nominated DC Tastemakers based on our innovative “plant-based” tacos. We sell them on a weekly basis at various markets and pop-up venues throughout DC. The Washington Post reported: “Trying to find the Chaia taco stand at the farmers market? Just look for the longest line.” We use fresh, locally sourced ingredients to create and inspire our menus each week. As one of the White House Pastry Chef’s tweeted after a meal from Chaia “these tacos are life changing and healthy too”.

All tacos are served with handmade corn tortillas, topped with microgreens and our special chipotle yogurt sauce.
