Iron Gate restaurant is located at 1734 N Street, NW. A friend of mine took his girlfriend here for an anniversary dinner and was a pretty big fan. I hear it’s a bit pricey but worth it. What do you guys think – one of DC’s best hidden gem restaurants? Any particularly good dishes? Worth the money?

There is a sign for a new pizza spot to come to 1745 Connecticut Ave, NW. However, there was a stop work order on the front window? Anyone ever hear of this pizza spot before? Is it a chain? They are claiming New York style pizza which could fill a gap in the city’s pizza options.

I don’t know how I missed this development. While we have a Gastropub, CommonWealth in Columbia Heights, this one sounds a bit different. It will be called Againn and their Web site says:

“A contemporary gastropub. A place to gather – your thoughts or with friends – and enjoy traditional British Isle pub cuisine presented in modern ware. Extensive single-malt scotch and beer selections, as well as fine wines and personal scotch lockers. Till we meet Againn. Drink Slowly. Eat Well. Speak Kindly.”

Sounds awesome. They say they’ll be open in Fall ’09 and when I walked by there was lots of action going on inside. They’ll be located at 1099 New York Avenue, NW:

Post Pub is located at 1422 L St NW. For some reason I had thought this place had closed but clearly I was mistaken. There were folks sitting outside this past weekend. What’s the word here more of a sandwich joint or drinking joint? Is it like Stan’s?

Ugh, this whole process has been a lesson learned for me. This will be the last word. Anyway, I am retracting my retraction of the original story. I have received word from someone in the know, off the record, that they are indeed closing. Also many folks have emailed me saying that they have been told either on the phone or in person that Rumberos is closing. I consider this a sad development and wish the owners and staff the best of luck in the future.

The Greene Turtle is located at 601 F Street, NW. From time to time folks ask me where is a good spot to go before an event at the Verizon Center. Some folks have mentioned this spot. I’ve never been but wonder what folks think of this spot? Is it just massively overrun with tourists or is it a decent sports bar?

Thaitanic II is the newest restaurant coming to Columbia Heights. It is located at 3462 14th Street, NW in the retail space of the Allegro apartments. One of the owners said they hope to open this weekend. They are shooting for Saturday, but it looks like that’ll be tight. But it is possible that they may finish the final touches by Saturday. If not, they’ll surely be open shortly after.

A few more photos after the jump. Any fans of the original Thaitanic out there? (more…)
