Patty Boom Boom is the Jamaican spot from the folks behind nearby Marvin and the Gibson located at 1359 U Street NW. I have two questions about this spot – how are the Jamaican pattys (any must order items)? And how is the music scene upstairs?

Back in March we learned that City2Cafe will become a proper “Homestyle Deli” at 1917 18th St, NW (north of T St). I chatted briefly with the owner who said that he is hoping to open this week. Thanks to a reader for the heads up that the construction had been completed. Stay tuned for a menu when it becomes available.

“Dear PoP,
I was wondering if folks knew of any restaurants offering Monday brunch (or just places where you can get breakfast food later in the day) on July 5th? Lots of people have that day off. I’m especially interested in places on the red or green lines, but am flexible.”
Anyone have any suggestions for this Monday? Do you think most places are open for brunch?j
We looked at some general best brunch options here.

Yetenbi is located at 1925 9th St NW. I know when we speak of Ethiopian and 9th St, most people love nearby Etete. But I’m wondering about a few of the other spots on 9th St, including Yetenbi. So anyone ever check them out? Any must order dishes?

According to @metrocurean, today you can get a free slice of pizza from 5 to 7pm at Flippin’ Pizza located at 1745 Connecticut Avenue, NW. (Sorry for the old picture but we’ve been anticipating this opening since Sept. ’09.) While you can get a free slice today, the grand opening is Friday. As a self proclaimed pizza expert I’ll be sure to check them out soon and report back.

Carmines located on 7th St, NW between D and E will be opening Aug. 3rd! I took a peek inside and it is huge. They’ll be training for a month and will be immediately ready to roll on Aug. 3rd. Menus are on the wall:

Sadly nearby at 410 7th Street, NW there doesn’t seem to be much movement on the bbq place Hill Country. The alcohol permit application has been removed from the window so I assume that’s not a good sign.
However there is some movement next door (where Apartment Therapy used to be):

I saw something about a theater on one of the permits but it wasn’t very clear. Anyone know what’s coming to this space?

The Lemon Bowl Deli is located on Georgia Avenue and Irving Street NW. There’s really very little info on google about this deli. I thought we had spoke about it a few years ago but I can’t seem to find it in the archives. The only decent info I found was from a Flickr page by diangela that says:
“The Lemon Bowl Deli has some of the best smoothies, lemonade, and BIG sandwiches.”
And there was this sign on the door:

I wonder how it compares to Ben’s Chili Bowl dog?
But let’s start fresh. Anyone ever get a sandwich here? A smoothie? If so do you recommend a particular type or flavor? I’m wondering if this a hidden gem like the Hitching Post?

Thanks to all who wrote in about some action going on at Meridian Pint coming to the corner of 11th and Park Road, NW near Red Rocks. You know, the place with table taps.

There was a pre-opening event last night and I had the good fortune to stop by. I didn’t take a lot of photos (you can see some preview shots here) but I couldn’t resist the table tap in action:

So after a few delays I’m happy to say they’ll official be open to the public this Thursday!

I’ll be exploring the beers a bit more but in the meantime here’s a sneak peek of just one row of taps:

“Hey PoP!
I was wondering if I could submit a question to your readers. I have a friend visiting in mid-July who was asking me for vegetarian or veggie-friendly restaurant recommendations. I’m not a vegetarian so not always on the lookout for places with good veggie options. What do your readers recommend as far as restaurants with lots of vegetarian choices?”
If you know of places with good vegetarian options please also say what neighborhood it is in. Thanks.
Here were the recommendations for best expensive, BBQ, tapas, bar to watch football, wine bar, Chinese, Latino/Mexican, hidden restaurants, Italian, Sushi, Indian, falafel, Ethiopian, Middle Eastern and Steak.
