Thanks to a reader for sending the heads up about – Tomatillo Taqueria. He writes, “serving out of the Big Hunt at 1345 Connecticut Ave, NW I just noticed it! It’s cash only.”

Back in January we took a quick look and folks seemed to dig it. If you work in the area, definitely seems like a good lunch option.

Arisu was located at 1734 Wisconsin Ave NW. I thought this was a restaurant we judged but I can’t seem to find it. Yelp reviewers gave them fairly high marks. I’ll be sure to update when info becomes available when a new tenant moves in. In the meantime, are there any good places to get Korean in DC?

Funxion is located at 1309 F Street, NW. I’ve been hearing mixed reviews about this downtown spot. For those who have been do you prefer it for the restaurant or the bar? I’ve heard the burgers are pretty good. Any other must order items? You can see their menus here.

“Dear PoP,

I was just hoping that you could plug the Argonaut now that it has reopened is ready for business. My wife and I live a few blocks away and have been 4-5 times since they’ve reopened as a tavern. Their upstairs (with a great view of the starburst intersection) and the patio are up, as are their booty beer and summer wheat on draft. They have a great neutella-and-homemade-peanut-butter sandwich, and their gazpacho is refreshing on these hot days.

The owners are such great people, and we’d hoped that more folks would be back to the Argo, given the huge crowds at both their fundraisers a few weeks ago. So far the place has been nearly (or completely) empty when we’ve been. The Argonaut has done so much for H Street that I feel that they could use all the help they could get.”

We talked about the fire at the Argonaut here. Argonaut is located at 1433 H Street, NE and looks like they have some great fish tacos. Get at ’em!

Cafe La Ruche is located at 1039 31st Street, NW in Georgetown. Place looks super cool from the outside, I’m wondering if it’s just as good inside? They’re doing a bit of work on their Web site but you can still see some of their menus here.

Any fans?

Kellari is located at 1700 K St, NW. After Italian, Greek is one of my favorite types of food so I’m eager if anyone has checked out this spot yet? Any must order items? You can see their menus here.

Where are your other favorite Greek spots in town?

Wow, it’s been fun speculating about what’s going in this space that used to be 100% Mexico years ago. Diamond District got us excited but turned out to be a tease. But now Metrocurean tweeted this weekend:

“Jeff Black (BlackSalt, Black’s, etc) is looking into 1612 14th St. for a new seafood restaurant, the Dupont Current reports. (Yay!)”

I don’t get the Dupont Current but I was just planning on visiting BlackSalt so I take that as a very good omen! Stay tuned as details emerge.

Holy cow, this is a wild update about Rogue States located at 1300 Connecticut Ave, NW. Thanks to a reader for sending this link from the ABA Journal:

“Yesterday [July 22] the law firm asked a Washington, D.C., judge to issue an injunction to stop Rogue States, a Burger Grilling Company, to put an end to the emissions, according to The BLT: The Blog of Legal Times. Judge John McAdams Mott gave the parties until Aug. 10 to resolve the case, but said he was inclined to grant injunctive relief if no agreement is reached.”

The Blog of the Legal Times says:

“In the firm’s complaint, which was filed on March 10 by Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman partner Deborah Baum, Steptoe contends that the exhaust system at Rogue States’ 1300 Connecticut Ave. N.W. location, which is near the firm’s 1330 Connecticut Ave. N.W. office, dumps smoke and fumes from the restaurant into the firm’s air-intake system. As a result, the complaint says, “Steptoe employees have reported health-related effects in connection with the smoke and food odors, including but not limited to headaches, nausea, dizziness, watery and itchy eyes, drowsiness and distraction.”

On Sunday morning I tweeted the following information that I heard from the folks at Meridian Pint (11th and Park Rd, NW):

“Meridian Pint serving brunch today (Sunday) from 12 noon til 2pm. Next week full service brunch on Sunday, Aug. 1st beginning at 10am”.

While a full brunch starts at 10am next Sunday (and goes until 3pm I believe) I also hear that in the following weeks brunch will also be extended to Sat. I’ll announce that extension when it goes live. Anyone happen to try the practice brunch on Sunday?

I can’t remember if I’ve ever noticed this before but at 600 Florida Ave, NW there is a coming soon sign for ‘6 Hundred Restaurant Bar Lounge’. I don’t think I’ve seen an alcohol application for this property but I’ll keep my eyes peeled. I think it would be nice to see this section of Florida Ave, NW to get some more life.

And WBJ’s Michael Neibauer reports (subscription only) that the long delayed O St. Market in Shaw will break ground in Sept. You can see a rendering here. Knock wood, knock wood.
