If you thought Pica Taco located at 1406 Florida Ave, NW, couldn’t get any better, well you’ll soon be able to get a beer with your burrito.

And just a side note, I thought the description of the restaurant from the alcohol application permit was pretty funny. There is one food item that doesn’t quite fit with the others…or does it?

“New restaurant with Mexican cuisine, burritos, tacos, bagels, enchiladas, etc.”

Exciting news about the restaurant coming to 1612 14th St, NW. We’ve been monitoring this property very closely. But now there are lots more details to share. Firstly the bar upstairs will be called Black Jack and the restaurant downstairs will be called Pearl Dive:

Secondly, as I was waking by the store I also noticed, in addition the poster above, a rendering of what the outside will look like:

Thirdly, Tom Sietsema of the Washington Post shares some great details:

“Logan Circle is netting another restaurant, this time from chef Jeff Black, who announced today that he’s buying the building at 1612 14th St. NW on October 20 and calling it The Pearl Dive Oyster Palace. The two-story venue, which he hopes to open in time for Valentine’s Day, will feature an oyster bar and 75-seat dining room on the street level and an upstairs bar — with a bocce ball court — called BlackJack.”

This sounds amazing, can’t wait for Valentine’s Day!

And finally, I’m not sure if it is big enough but after the jump you can see the architectural designs including what both floors will look like. (more…)

El Sausalito located at 1424 Park Rd NW and the space next door are getting serious renovations (on the inside not just the facade). I was surprised to find a very good review on yelp of El Sausolito. I’ll be curious to see if they stay in business, expand, or if two new restaurants will be going in. Stay tuned for more info when renovations are completed.

Back in June we learned that Tackle Box would be opening up another location in Cleveland Park at 3407 Connecticut Ave, NW in the long vacated McDonald’s space. There had been lots of false rumors about 3407 Connecticut Ave, NW and from June until just recently there was very little movement. So when I walked by a couple days ago, I was psyched to see the sign in the window. Also DCRA permits were posted for the first time and it looks like the space has been completely gutted. (Also cool, how the sign projects on the floor.) And Winter 2011 is right around the corner…

More hot dog news! Barracks Row Main Street says:

“The owners of Matchbox and Ted’s Bulletin confirmed this afternoon that their newest restaurant will open this fall at 423 8th St. SE. DC3 will serve gourmet hot dogs and sandwiches.”

When they open we’ll have to have a taste off between them and Chidogo coming to U St, NW.

Ken’s is located at 400 Florida Ave NW. I have to be honest, last weekend was the first time I walked by and saw the doors open. I always thought they were closed and in my mind were just the place with the cool mural. This place is obviously a take-away place rather than super fine dining in a proper restaurant but when I went inside to look around a patron said they had great sandwiches and breakfasts. So I’ll throw it out to you guys – how’s the food? Any must order items?

Ed. Note: BACA noted it was for sale back in August for $249k.

I just noticed this place last weekend on H St, NE (sadly I now realize I didn’t write down the exact block, I wanna say somewhere between 5th and 8th on the north side of the street). Anyway, I couldn’t find out much about them on the web so I’m wondering if anyone has checked them out yet? Do you know when they opened? And of course – how’s the bbq?

There have been lots of reader reports that the Chipotle has opened up in Union Station. And while it was only scuttlebutt in August, The Mt. Vernon Triangle Fall Newsletter says that “Chipotle will be moving into the The K sales center at CityVista along 5th Street, NW.”

In the same scuttlebutt post I mentioned that Ray’s of Ray’s the Steaks would be coming to City Vista as well. That also turned out to be true so stay tuned for more updates on Ray’s plans for City Vista.

Last week we saw that ZPizza looked close to opening up at 8th and H St, NW. It turns out that’s not the only pizza news for Penn Quarter. It looks like Pi Pizzeria will be opening up a restaurant on F street NW in Spring of 2011. It does not appear that they are affiliated with Pi Pizzeria in Adams Morgan. Their Web site says:

…known for its deep-dish cornmeal crust
provel-free
…the best deep and thin crust pizza in st. louis
the circular constant
…open lunch and dinner 7 days/week
happy to pour wine from your collection
…the circumference of a circle when its diameter is 1
a green restaurant
…now in the central west end, kirkwood and chesterfield
grateful for your support
…often available for private parties
happy to split checks up to 4 ways
…now serving gluten-free crust
offering daiya vegan cheese and match vegan meat
…unable to accept reservations
open for coffee and pastries at 6am in the cwe
…now serving from our mobile pizza truck
coming spring 2011 to washington, dc

This morning I passed on the word from Creme’s Web site saying that they had closed. Turns out it was a hoax of sorts. Thanks to a reader for sending this link:

The restaurant’s management team, which has been running the location for 6 years, was dismissed and their last day was Thursday. For the time being, Crème Café and current chef, Orlando Hitzig, will continue normal operations, though there may be changes on the horizon. “The chef is going to stay on for now,” Alewa says, “We might make a change and go back to our original style of menu. Though it will be very similar.”

Which, of course, is a far cry from shuttering its doors.
