1309 F Street NW

On Wed. DC Eater wrote a post titled, “District Taco To Open Up Somewhere in Metro Center” they report:

Arlington-based food truck District Taco announced in May that it was in the market for a second brick-and-mortar location — one that was actually in the District proper. The taco truck’s fans have been waiting patiently ever since and now there is some good news. The truck tweeted this afternoon that it has secured a location in Metro Center.

While District Taco wouldn’t confirm an exact location in the story above, multiple sources tell me that they will be going into the former Funxion space (note the Funxion sign has come down in the photo above) at 1309 F Street NW. I give this scuttlebutt a 98% accuracy rating.

Any fans of District Taco?

I’ll be sure to update if/as build out progresses.

Back in July ’11 we first got word that Eataly was looking around for a DC space. I’m super psyched to hear this project is progressing. Per the Washington Post’s Jonathan O’Connell:

Since then, the search has quickly progressed, according to Michael R. Zacharia, senior vice president of retail services for CBRE, who is leading the search for Eataly in Washington. Zacharia said he has been looking for 60,000 square feet for Eataly and has narrowed the search to “three or four locations.” All the sites are in the District.

60,000 square feet!?!??! Awesome. I just had lunch at the NY Eataly’s roof top birreria last month. So freaking good!

WJLA reports:

On Tuesday, the D.C. liquor board came to an agreement with the management of Heritage India to reopen on Dec. 21, but the establishment has agreed to a series of limitations in order to serve alcohol.

As part of their reopening, Heritage India must give up their entertainment license, meaning that they must close every night by midnight. They’re also required to sell food with alcohol.

Heritage India, located at 1337 Connecticut Ave., NW, was the scene of a fight that resulted in a Nov. 27th shooting death as well as stabbings. They released their own statement here.

I think they may already be open but will be able to sell liquor on the 21st? I took this photo yesterday:

Rejoice! Eater DC reports:

He’s [Barry Koslow] partnering with the guys from the Roadside Food Project and aims to serve your typical deli options — corned beef, pastrami (both house-made), matzo ball soup pickled fish — but they’re also going to be boozing it up with craft cocktails, beer and wine.

Looks like the Deli is coming to the former Cafe Mio space at 1317 Connecticut Ave, NW. This was the location that was going to become a Go Burger but that fell through in Feb. ’11.

Best news for DC since we got a baseball team back?

UPDATE: Just got a press release with lots more info:

DGS Delicatessen opening in Dupont Circle Spring 2012.

Acclaimed DC Chef Barry Koslow– recently named DC’s best Jewish chef by Forward Magazine– will launch a craft Jewish delicatessen in partnership with Roadside Food Projects in late Spring/early Summer 2012. The menu will evoke nostalgia for the classic delicatessen while elevating the experience with house-cured meats and fish and bread, bagels and bialys by Mark Furstenburg. DGS Delicatessen will be located at 1317 Connecticut Avenue, just south of Dupont Circle, with approximately 80 seats inside the restaurant, a patio and a to-go market featuring select items from the menu. The bar will offer a curated beverage program featuring a smart beer and wine list and old-world vodkas.

Continues after the jump. (more…)

From a press release:

The architecture and design team at Bethesda, MD-based Streetsense has been selected to design the 5,000 square foot interior of Bandolero, Chef Mike Isabella’s new modern Mexican small-plates concept set to open in Georgetown (3241 M Street, NW in Washington, D.C.) in early 2012.

Mike Isabella, a former Top Chef contestant who opened the wildly popular Italian-inspired Graffiato restaurant in Washington’s Chinatown district in June of this year, was tapped by restaurateur Jonathan Umbel to bring his creative vision to the Georgetown location formerly known as Hook. Hook and its sister restaurant, Tackle Box, have been closed since last summer due to a fire. Isabella and Umbel are working closely with Streetsense, which also is designing new interiors graphics for Tackle Box restaurants in Georgetown and Cleveland Park.

The partners are teaming with Streetsense designers Rhena Saar and Sumaya Kaufman to create a “Day-of-the-Dead” interior, incorporating cemetery gates, tequila crates, reclaimed wood, mismatched furniture, and creative lighting schemes that provide a candlelit glow. Dining spaces on two levels will feature a chef’s table with views into the kitchen and a communal table overlooking M Street. Like Georgetown itself after sunset, Bandolero will be “dark, crowded, hip, high-energy, and fun, with amazing food and drinks.”

“My vision for Bandolero is a high-energy, high-volume restaurant to match the bustling vibe of the Georgetown neighborhood and feed the late-night appetite of its college students, said Isabella. “The menu will change frequently with my twist on classic Mexican dishes and a large cocktail menu.” The Bandolero menu will feature salsas, guacamoles, ceviches, tacos, vegetables, and “carbons,” some with untraditional fillings such as duck and goat meat.
