Dear PoPville,

Hey there – just heard from a friend walking to work that they saw a liquour license application for that vacant building between the new art gallery and Room and Board at Swann and 14th for “Local 14” a spin – off of Local 16. May be worth investigating – I know lots of people have been wondering what would happen to that seemingly forgotten space!

Unfortunately, Local 14 applied for a liquor license back in June 2009 and there has been zero visible progress on the space since. So I’m gonna take this opportunity to nominate 1832 14th Street, NW for a retail space horse’s ass award.

Of course if a new restaurant, Local 14 or someone else, does come to the space I think that would be great. It’s a super prime location.

Dear PoPville,

Right now we are open from 9am-6pm tues-sun. We are closed monday. Breakfast and lunch, soups, salads, sandwiches, and desserts.

Thank you,
Chef Alfio

Zuppa Fresca is located in The Loree Grand at 250 K Street, NE. You can see their menu here.

As soon as they get their liquor license they’ll be open for dinner (I’ll be sure to update.)

Anyone check them out for breakfast or lunch?

Thanks to all who wrote in with the good news. I stopped by yesterday to get a quick peek of Taylor’s [Taylor Gourmet for the purists] new 14th St, NW location. While finishing touches were getting completed at 1908 14th St, NW (at T St.) you can see below what an amazing transformation occurred with the space. Also, while I was at the 14th location they were finalizing their delivery radius. It’s looking like they’ll cover all of Columbia Heights and Mt. Pleasant. I’ll update when the final borders are determined.

Back in October 2009, the folks at Room 11 confirmed there were looking to expand into Jeans N Things located next door at 11th and Lamont St, NW.

Negotiations likely rivaled those of the Good Friday Accord but the glorious day has arrived! From a press release:

The owners of Room 11 (Ben Gilligan, Nick Pimentel, Paul Ruppert and Dan Searing) are pleased to announce they have signed a lease to take over the adjoining storefront at 3232 11th St NW, formerly Jeans ‘N’ Things. Construction will begin soon and the projected completion date is early summer. “The only regular complaint we get is that there are not enough seats” says Searing, “so we are looking forward to having more room to serve our loyal guests.”

I’d say this is the best news I’ve heard since, well, originally hearing about Room 11.

2012 officially off to a kick ass start!
