3412 11th St, NW

Back in Feb. 2012 I shared the news that the PORC food truck was opening a brick and mortar restaurant in Columbia Heights in the old Aquario space at 3412 11th St, NW (next to Meridian Pint.) We previously learned:

Brought to you by the founders of popular food truck, Purveyors of Rolling Cuisine (PORC), Josh Saltzman and Trent Allen; along with fellow U of Michigan alum Chris Powers and DC-native Peyton Sherwood.

Kangaroo Boxing will be the establishment everyone wishes for their own neighborhood. A nice relaxed atmosphere, quality and consistent menu options and a solid selection of beer and wine.

The name, Kangaroo Boxing Club, comes from long-running, drink-infused, late-night bar discussions on the fact that, without technology, man is physically unable to compete with the majority of the animal kingdom. How would you win a match with a kangaroo?

I’m happy to say they’ll be open very soon. I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek and share some photos. Stay tuned for the opening and the full menu in the next couple of weeks.

Lots more photos after the jump. (more…)

Looks like Dangerously Delicious Pies is coming to Union Station. @zcolman spots the scene above in the Union Station food court. He advises, “Time to invest in new belts.”

In Feb. 2012 we learned that Dangerously Delicious Pies would also be opening a new location in Chinatown at 901 7th Street, NW. While that location anticipated an April opening, they have not opened yet.

Dangerously Delicious Pies’ original DC space is located at 1339 H St, NE. You can see their menu here.

Thanks to all who sent word about the letter posted on the door of Mid City Fish Market at the corner of 14th and P St, NW:

The date of the letter posted says June 7th. On the evening of June 7th there was a fire on the third floor of this building. It is not clear if the letter was posted before or after the fire.

I can’t vouch for the food but I will miss their fish signs if they do close. More info as it becomes available.

The National Building Museum, 401 F St, NW, is on a roll. First they are bringing us mini golf inside the museum and now barbeque from Hill Country. It’s not too often you see a liquor license application attached to a tree but here’s a good one:

It says:

“New Seasonal outdoor tavern on the 5th Street lawn of the National Building Museum serving barbecue food and beverages with live entertainment.”

Awesome!

Hill Country is located nearby at 410 7th St, NW in Penn Quarter. You can see their menu here. More info on Hill Country Summer Barbeque as it becomes available.

Back in Nov. 2010 we learned that Pacifico Cantina was going to replace the Capital Video Sales store on Barracks Row next to Belga at 514 8th Street, SE.

Pacifico Cantina from Xavier Cervera [Senart’s, Lola’s, Boxcar Tavern, Molly Malone’s future Hawk n Dove] is opening on Thursday:

A reader snuck a peek at the inside:

I’m still most excited about the roof deck:
