1117 V St, NW

We’re getting very close to Izakaya Seki opening at 1117 V St, NW. Check out the note posted on the door:

Tons of good info on their website. Check out their menu here and drinks menu here. See why I’m so psyched for this place? This is the real deal.

So keep your eyes peeled for the red lantern in a couple of weeks – which will signal they are open:

And here’s a quick preview. The first floor:

Continues after the jump. (more…)

From an email:

“We’re excited to be holding our first wine dinner on Wednesday, July 25th. It will be a 5-course menu featuring seasonal ingredients, each course paired with an organic or biodynamic wine from Italy or France. Chef Brad Walker will be on hand to talk with folks, as will our wine guru and distributor Charles Gendrot. We will be closing off half the restaurant for the event — the menu looks delicious and it should be a great time.”

14th and V St, NW

Dear PoPville,

The 2 story brick building at the NE corner of 14th and V Streets NW, just up the block from the Reeves Center, is going to be a Mexican restaurant of some sort, to be open in 5-6 months. This is according to one of the guys doing construction there. Timeframe…they say opening in 5-6 months and I hear 7-9 months…

Back in April we noted that massive renovations/construction had begun. It wasn’t clear at the time but sounds like plans are still for La Fonda:

“New Mexican restaurant offering “Tex-Mex” styled cuisine with live entertainment featuring a single musician and karaoke. Seating capacity is 220. Total occupancy load is 332. Sidewalk Café with seating for 48.”

1825 18th St. NW

Dear PoPville,

Any word on what’s up with The Cajun Experience on 18th Street in Adams Morgan? Their website is down and no one is answering the phone. Also, the recent Yelp reviews are horrible. I used to really like this place and I had high hopes for them, but I can’t seem to figure out what happened! I have a LivingSocial deal for this place…guess I’ll try to get a refund.

Wow, just last week I noticed a banner announcing new managment:

But I stopped by over the weekend to check in and the banner was gone and the place was deserted:

We judged the Cajun Experience back in March 2011. We we first learned that they would open in the old Inti Peruvian space by Lauriol Plaza back in Dec. 2010.

Another new restaurant for 14th Street/Logan Circle. Barcelona Restaurant will be coming to 1622 14th Street, NW in the BodySmith Gym space next to Miss Pixie’s. The liquor license application says:

“New Tavern, neighborhood gathering place, offering music and tavern food with Entertainment. Total occupancy load of 100 with 49 seats. Summer Garden with 49 seats.”

BodySmith Gym is moving two spots up the street into the former AYT garage space.

1118 H St, NE

H & Pizza opened up today at 1118 H St, NE next to Taylor’s. “No pre-made pies, no re-heating, no compromises.”

This Saturday from Think Local First DC (TLF) kicks off a week full of food events – for both consumers and the restaurant industry—-at Acre121 with BBQ, Beer, Bluegrass and Blues. Tickets for the event, co-sponsored by Acre121 and Listen Local First can be purchased online at www.eatlocalfirstdc.com

For $25, attendees will enjoy local BBQ and beer along with live music from local groups: Young Rapids, Typefighter and Frau Eva.

This is the first of 11 events that focus on local farms, products and the restaurants, organizations and people that are making locally-grown food more accessible in the DC community. Eat Local Week, scheduled for July 14-21 includes the signature Farm-to-Street party, an Industry Panel, the launch of a culinary incubation program.

This year a special effort will be made on the emerging culinary entrepreneurs that are growing the restaurant economy in DC. Washingtonians should prepare to see brick-and-mortar restaurants paired with the emerging class to create the most creative week ever.
