7th and H St, NW

Looks like things are moving forward with the Yo! Sushi coming to the renovated building at 7th and H St, NW in Chinatown.

675 H Street, NW

The entrance will be on H Street and the liquor license application says:

“New Japanese restaurant serving primarily Sushi & Japanese style food for on-site consumption or grab & go with seating for 48 patrons and total occupancy load of 62.”

Yo! Sushi recently opened their first DC location in Union Station. You can see their menus here. Anyone try them out yet at Union Station?

Back in April 2012 we noted Room 11 was getting closer to their expansion in Columbia Heights. I stopped by and took a peek at the expanded space on Sunday and there has been serious progress made. One of the owners I spoke with said they were shooting for a Sept./Oct. opening of the expanded space.

And following the news of the explosion of outdoor cafe seating downtown, comes word that Room 11 is also hoping to add more outdoor seats in front of their expanded space in the old Jeans n Things at 3232 11th St, NW. Great news for those who enjoy drinking/dining outside.

As a huge fan of outdoor seating the following makes me very happy – from the Downtown BID:

The DowntownDC BID’s 2012 Inventory of Sidewalk Cafes shows there are now 147—more than an 8% increase compared to 2011. Although our reporting methodology changed this year—we were able to capture exact seat numbers as opposed to approximate capacities—the nearly 4,400 seats tallied represent about a 70% increase in available seats from the previous year.

According to this year’s survey, the fourth since 2009, the number of small, “intimate” cafes (with 1-20 seats) and mid-size ones (with 21-40 seats) have mushroomed, climbing about 59% and 105%, respectively, since 2009. Both make up about 77% of the available cafes within the DowntownDC BID area, which encompasses 138 blocks.

1837 1st Street, NW

Back in May 2012 I shared some scuttlebutt that a Spanish tapas restaurant was coming to the vacant space in the yellow building next to Rustik at 1837 1st St, NW. Ed. Note: Across the street, 1822 1st St, NW will become an Italian-influenced American restaurant.

Turns out the scuttlebutt was accurate about the Spanish tapas restaurant. It will be called Costa Brava and the liquor license application posted out front says:

“Restaurant/bar serving Spanish tapas with a seating capacity for less than 50 patrons and a total load of less than 99. Requesting an Entertainment Endorsement for occasional small Spanish ensemble, acoustical trio and DJ.

In addition, requesting a Sidewalk Café with 12 seats and Summer Garden with 20 seats.”
