From the Mayor’s Office:

“As the District continues responding to and working to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), Mayor Muriel Bowser is encouraging volunteers to join the DC Medical Reserve Corps (DC MRC). The DC MRC is housed in the DC Department of Health (DC Health) and supports public health and medical emergency preparedness, response, and recovery by recruiting, training, and deploying medical and non-medical volunteers to assist with planned events and emergencies. Volunteers can complete the online registration HERE.

“As the coronavirus continues to impact the District of Columbia, the nation, and the world, we are asking volunteers to join the DC Medical Reserve Corps to assist in our response,” said Mayor Bowser. “We know our residents look out for their neighbors, and this emergency is no different. The DC Medical Reserve Corps needs volunteers – especially those with medical experience – to sign up today.”

DC Government will operate under an agency-specific telework schedule, continuing to deliver essential services and keep critical systems and services operating. Some government operations will be performed fully remotely, while other services will continue to be performed at public buildings, but under modified operations.

The Mayor also extended the prohibition on mass gatherings during a public health emergency until April 25, 2020.

“Dear PoPville,

I am a commission based stylist at a popular salon in DC and I made the personal choice to stop working on Friday night until April first, and at that point I will reevaluate the situation. As many of us in the industry, we are scared to work on clients for fear of getting or spreading the virus. We also don’t get paid if we don’t work and basically no salons in the DC area provide paid time off or sick leave. This puts us in a difficult position. My salon decided to close on Monday until next Tuesday and I got word today that he is planning on opening back up then. He has given us all the choice whether we want to come back in or not, however we will have to provide our own masks and hand sanitizer. If we opt out of working and the government hasn’t shut us down we will not be able to receive unemployment benefits.

I am reaching out to ask you to promote this petition I have created to ask the mayor to enact a shelter in place order for the next 2 weeks. Much like the one San Francisco and Nevada just implemented.”

Silver lining is those God forsaken reversible lanes during rush hour have been suspended

From a press release:

“The District of Columbia Government has modified its operations in order to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and the District Department of Public Works (DPW) have modified several operations, systems and services.

District Department of Transportation (DDOT)

  • All rush hour parking restrictions will be suspended effective Thursday, March 19 at 6:00 a.m.
  • Rush hour reversible lanes operations on Connecticut Avenue and 16th Street NW will be suspended effective Thursday, March 19 at 6:00 a.m. Reversible lanes operations on Independence Avenue and Canal Road will continue to operate as normal during the morning and evening rush hours. DDOT will use dynamic message boards to communicate these changes to the traveling public.
  • Effective immediately, the DC Circulator is suspending fares on all routes during the declared public health emergency. Additionally, effective Thursday, March 19, the DC Circulator will suspend service on the National Mall Route. Suspension of fares allows passengers to board the bus from all doors in support of social distancing practices recommended by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Passengers who require wheelchair access may still use the front door to board.

From MPD:

“The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) takes pride in professionally responding to crisis situations, and we will continue to do so throughout the current public health emergency. This is a constantly evolving situation that requires MPD to do our part to limit exposure without interrupting the high level of service provided to our community. It is necessary that MPD maintains a healthy workforce so that we may continue providing emergency services when called upon. We have identified certain operational measures that can be temporarily modified for the community and our members.

It is important to note that MPD facilities remain open at this time, but to mitigate potential exposure to and spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), operational adjustments have been implemented and will continue to expand as required. Additionally, if calling for police services and you are experiencing flu-like or COVID-19 symptoms, including fever, cough, and shortness of breath, callers should notify the dispatcher so first responders may take appropriate safety precautions upon their arrival.

The following operational adjustments are in place at MPD: (more…)
