Council of the District of Columbia asks DC Public Schools for Details about the Dismissal of School Without Walls Principal Richard Trogisch; Faculty, Students and Families call for for an immediate reinstatement

Thanks to all who sent the following letters about the sudden dismissal of School Without Walls Principal Richard Trogisch. First via Change.org by Daya George, President of student government at School Without Walls:

“The School Without Walls faculty, students and families are calling for an immediate reinstatement of Richard Trogisch as Principal of our respective schools.

The community is extremely disappointed and concerned in response to Principal Richard Trogisch’s removal as principal of School Without Walls High School and School Without Walls at Francis Stevens. Principal Trogisch consistently advocated for us as students but also as members of the DC community. Under his leadership, School Without Walls excelled and is now ranked as the top public high school in the city. Removing Principal Trogisch at this time may cause a number of devastating impacts on the School Without Walls community. His removal destabilizes the school community in this already chaotic time. During this difficult time, we are all craving some normalcy, and removing Principal Trogisch undermines the school’s stability and increases the trauma of the time period. “anyone else is having issues with unemployment back pay?”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m wondering if anyone else is having issues with unemployment back pay? I haven’t received any payments since early July. I’ve emailed and called DOES with no answers. Any ideas?
Can I get Mayor Bowser to help? Or can I force Wmata to give me the $400 on my metro card because I a) don’t have a job to travel to, and b) need the money.

Any advice would be appreciated!”

“DC Health and Nine Local Jurisdictions Ask Individuals Connected to Recent White House Events to Contact Their Local Health Department”

“Today, DC Health, led by Dr. LaQuandra Nesbitt, joined health officers from nine local jurisdictions in sending a letter to individuals who have worked in the White House in the past two weeks, attended the Supreme Court announcement in the Rose Garden on Saturday, September 26, 2020, and/or have had close contact with others who work in those spaces or attended those events. The letter calls on these individuals to contact their local health department for further guidance/questions regarding their potential need to quarantine. Mayor’s Order 2020-103 “public emergency and public health emergency are extended through December 31, 2020”

“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser issued Mayor’s Order 2020-103 to extend the District’s public emergency and public health emergency and issue additional measures for Phase Two. Under the Order, the public emergency and public health emergency are extended through December 31, 2020.”

“On Tuesday, October 13, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) will open indoor pools on a modified schedule”

“On Tuesday, October 13, in consultation with the Bowser Administration, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) will open indoor pools on a modified schedule with social distancing guidelines and enhanced safety measures in place. Registration begins today, October 1. Participants must reserve a space online.

DPR will operate seven aquatic centers for structured programs and lap swimming only. Swimming reservations are limited to 45 minutes with one reservation per day and a four reservation maximum within a seven-day period. High touch surfaces will be cleaned between each time slot. As part of these safety measures, pool locker rooms will not be open for resident use.

DPR staff will ensure water chemistry readings are taken hourly. Water chemistry levels shall be maintained in compliance with current regulations from DC Health. Sanitizers used in pool operations are regulated by the District Department of the Environment (DDOE) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The following aquatic centers will operate Monday – Friday from 6:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. (closed 12:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.), Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and will be closed on Sunday: (more…)
