From DDOT:

“The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will host two virtual public meetings to present an overview of the Connecticut Avenue NW Reversible Lane Safety and Operations Study including the technical analysis and preliminary concept designs. The virtual meetings will be held on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 and Thursday, April 1, 2021; the same information will be presented during both meetings.

The Connecticut Avenue NW Reversible Lane Safety and Operations Study assesses the multimodal (vehicular, transit, bicycle, and pedestrian) operational and safety impacts associated with removing or maintaining/improving the existing reversible lane system and improving multimodal accessibility (e.g., consideration of adding protected bicycle lanes). The project area is 2.7 miles long with the primary area from Connecticut Avenue at Legation Street NW to Calvert Street NW. The secondary project area is bordered by Wisconsin Avenue to the west, Broad Branch Road to the east, Dupont Circle to the south, and Western Avenue to the north.

Through the study, DDOT aims to: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

There will be a rally for opening DC Schools this Saturday, 3/13, 2-4 pm at Mayor Bowser’s office (1350 Pennsylvania Ave NW). Anyone who supports this cause is welcome to attend! It’s past time to open schools. Kids have already lost way to much.”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m curious to hear if any of my fellow DC residents who pre-registered for vaccines received emails/phone calls yet today? I’m just trying to poll the group to ensure the new system is in fact working. With an estimated 13,000 shots available, I figured there had to be a few lucky readers who got their numbers drawn!”

One reader reports at 9:17am: “I got an email to set up an appointment this morning. Scheduled for Tuesday. Seems the system works.”

Anyone else get one?

From The Office of the Attorney General:

“Today, Attorney General Karl A. Racine filed a lawsuit against the parent company of Washington Sports Club for failing to comply with the District’s health and safety orders related to COVID-19. In the complaint, the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) alleges that the Dupont Circle location of the Washington Sports Club failed to enforce the District’s mask mandate, set and enforce appropriate social distancing guidelines, and properly disinfect equipment. Through the lawsuit, OAG is seeking civil penalties and a court order requiring the gym to comply with applicable safety regulations. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

When the Vision Zero Omnibus bill was made law at the end of December, part of it was making it illegal to drive a motor vehicle with headphones/earbuds in both ears in the District (unless they are hearing aids).

Ban on headphones while driving pgs 8 and 9 (PDF)

Here’s the link with the timeline that has every date update on the legislation, including when the bill was passed.

I’ve worked with the Council of DC for almost three years to get it added to DC traffic code after almost getting hit by a SUV driver with headphones in in summer 2018, and now it’s officially law! (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I was laid off and received a severance payment at the beginning of August. My understanding is that unemployment office needs to verify the credibility of severance before continuing with weekly UI payments but will issue back pay for the weeks it took to verify the severance payment. This is what I was reassured by a number of operators when I called the unemployment hotline throughout the summer and early fall.

I filled out the initial fact finding survey to verify my severance, but then in November I was told to fill out another fact finding survey and then again in December. Calling the hotline doesn’t get me anywhere really because the phone operators obviously don’t have the power to clear what’s holding up my case. (more…)

From DDOT:

“The District Department of Transportation (DDOT), in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and in cooperation with the National Park Service (NPS), has released the Final Environmental Assessment (EA) and the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Rehabilitation of Broad Branch Road, NW (proposed action). The proposed action involves the rehabilitation of 1.5 miles of Broad Branch Road, NW between Linnean Avenue, NW and Beach Drive, NW. The proposed action will improve roadway and drainage infrastructure conditions, enhance safety operations for vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians, improve intersections and provide ADA-compliant sidewalks for the entire length of the corridor. “Dear PoPville,

I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about DC tax refund statuses? The DC Office of Tax and Revenue has a dead link up on their website for checking the status of refunds – I haven’t been able to reach anyone to get any information! Wondering if any of your readers who have filed their tax returns have received their refunds yet.

Thanks to Bridget for sending: “All the new details are live on the site, including the break downs of distribution.”

From the website:

“DC will launch a pre-registration system for making vaccination appointments on Wednesday, March 10 at the link below or through the COVID-19 Call Center at 1-855-363-0333. If you are in an eligible population, you may be contacted via email or phone beginning Friday, March 12 to book one of the 14,680 appointments being made available through the portal and call center. Due to limits on available appointments, it may takes weeks for you to receive an invitation to book an appointment.”
