“At 6 this morning we woke up to our humble little bakery that has served the beautiful neighborhood of Adams Morgan for almost a decade now, looking like this : glass shattered for as far as the eyes could see and all our Point of Sale equipment lying banged up on the floor after a very damaging break in. Sadly this has been happening to so many other small businesses in the area , night after night and for several weeks now . I am blessed though for the outpouring of love and dedication that I witnessed from the staff who arrived this morning to clean up the mess an intruder caused to our second home and resume their work like nothing happened . “D.C. Councilmember Vincent C. Gray introduced legislation to retain high quality police officers and enhance efforts to recruit new police.

Gray’s legislation, the “Police Officer Recruitment and Retention Act of 2023,” is multi-faceted and seeks to address numerous issues that have resulted in a steep decline in the number of sworn officers employed by the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia.

At present, MPD employs 3,386 sworn officers. In 2013, the number was 4,010. Alarmingly, a precipitous decrease of nearly 500 officers since 2018 has coincided with an increase in homicides to levels not seen in 20 years.

Update from the Mayor’s Office:

“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announced that DC residents who own a 2011-2021 Kia or Hyundai vehicle are eligible to receive a free steering wheel lock from an MPD District station starting this Friday, February 24. MPD is partnering with Kia and Hyundai corporations to combat motor vehicle theft after a social media challenge that encourages using a USB cable to steal these types of cars led to a substantial increase in Kia and Hyundai car thefts. “The detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Unit are investigating a death that occurred on Sunday, February 19, 2023, in the 1200 block of H Street, NE. The preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 11:09 pm, officers responded to a call for an altercation that occurred in the 1200 block of H Street, NE. (more…)

Friday February 10, 2023 My bag was taken by woman seated next me in library. Why do I know? The woman was found in my apartment caught on camera in my building entering with my keys checking my mailbox and later entering my unit. I arrived 30 minutes later and she bagged my toiletries and gone through my closet bagging clothes. (more…)

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District seek the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a suspect in a Voyeurism offense that occurred on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, in the 3100 block of 14th Street, Northwest.

At approximately 1:19 pm, the suspect used a cell phone to take a photo of a female victim while she was in a dressing room. The suspect then fled the scene.
