“At approximately 3:30 AM, a black male walked up to another black male in the 1700 block of Columbia Road, NW, and shot him. The victim’s injuries are non life threatening at this time, and was tranported to an area hospital for treatment. Anyone with information in reference to this shooting is urged to contact the Third District Detective’s office on 202-673-6918.”

“In the early morning hours of Sunday May 17th, tires were slashed on numerous vehicles in the Mt. Pleasant Street area. Based on video footage recovered from several buildings, 4D officers and detectives were able to identify a suspect. An arrest warrant was obtained today and 4D officers located the suspect placing him under arrest. The suspect is identified as 19 year-old Walter Portillo of the 1300 block of Kenyon Street, NW.”
“Dear PoPville,
Tonight [Wednesday] at about 7:45 the police were arresting two people on Allison street between 5th and Illinois when my neighbor, Devin, walked over to ask to move the car so he and his girlfriend could get out – his hands were down and he was just walking. Not sure what happened or if someone said something, but the cops grabbed him and out him against a pole then banged him on the car as they were taking him down on the ground, and he was trying to get up. Then they threw him over a spiked fence and were pressing him down on it and twisting his arm and then injured his head causing a wound that bled. Meanwhile everyone in the neighborhood was out and we were trying to tell the police we know him and he wasn’t doing anything and we were taking video, but then they kept telling us to move back and called for backup and crime scene tape.
There were 17 cops, 14 cars, and we asked for a white shirt, who came. They kept him bent over, impaled on the little fence for a long time and then had him standing, and at one point poured water over his head, possibly to wipe away the blood. I attempted to give a statement twice to Sgt. Mason who verbally attacked me and refused my statement and took my ID and wouldn’t give it back until the Lieutenant came. Several of us witnesses filed police reports. We also called the Mayor’s office, who sent 2 people, and councilmember Brandon Todd came. Devin was taken away in hand cuffs in an ambulance and his family was not notified where he was being taken. His girlfriend said he has asthma. He is supposed to take the fireman test on Saturday. His brother and other neighbors have some video but over all it’s just of the police’s overreaction to the neighbors not the actual brutality since we were pushed too far away.”

“Someone spilled a drink; fists flew. Person called the cops and is pressing charges. Cops reviewed the security footage, saw management was present but no one called 911 to report. That’s what got them in hot water. Command’s response to me: “The Marrakech [2147 P Street, NW] was closed due to a patron being allegedly assaulted inside of the establishment.”

“Approximately 60 minutes ago [just before midnight Friday night] Third District officers received a call for a man with a gun in the 1600 block of 7th St, NW.
Foot patrol officers who were in the area located the subject and attempted to stop him.
After a brief foot pursuit the subject was apprehended after he threw the firearm.
This is the 7th gun recovered by Third District officers in the past 3 days.”
UPDATE from MPD:
“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced an arrest has been made in the homicide that occurred in the 1400 block of T Street, NW.
On Sunday, June 7, 2015, at approximately 9:23 pm, members of the Third District responded to a call for a reported stabbing. After arriving on the scene, Officers located four victims suffering from stab wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and transported three of the four victims to local hospitals. One of the victims transported to the hospital, an adult female, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
The decedent has been identified as 64-year-old Santos Ventura of Northwest, Washington, DC.
On Sunday, June 7, 2015, 70-year old Manuel Antonio Ramos of Northwest, Washington, DC, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder while Armed in the stabbing death of Ms. Ventura.”

“On today’s date, at approximately 12:40 p.m., a male subject robbed the Wells Fargo Bank located in the 3300 block of 14th Street, N.W. The suspect fled with an unknown amount of currency. Third District members immediately canvassed the area and, based on a physical description lookout that was provided, apprehended the suspect in the vicinity of 12th & Kenyon Streets, N.W. Anyone with additional information is asked to call the MPD on 202/727-9099.”

“On Tuesday, June 02, 2015, at approximately 6:00 pm, the Third District Crime Suppression Unit received reliable information that an adult male suspect was armed with a semi automatic pistol in the 1400 block of Columbia Road, NW.
The Third District Crime Suppression Unit immediately responded to the area and stopped the adult male suspect.
After further investigation the suspect was found to be in possession of an unregistered firearm. The adult male suspect was subsequently arrested for carrying a pistol without a license.”
