“Let’s cut through the legal jargon. Trayon White is accused of taking bribes,” Mendelson said. “The prosecutors have established probable cause, our own independent investigation found substantial evidence that he took bribes, and public servants are prohibited from taking bribes. This is quintessential corruption.”

“The Metropolitan Police Department announces multiple arrests made after the peaceful resolution of a barricade situation inside a Navy Yard apartment complex.

On Thursday, December 12, 2024, at approximately 12:55 a.m., members of the First District responded to a call for a burglary inside an apartment complex in the 1100 block of First Street, Southeast. A victim reported multiple suspects entered their apartment and demanded property, but then realized they were in the wrong unit and left without obtaining property. The suspects then gained entry to neighboring unit. When officers arrived, the suspects were still inside that apartment. Officers declared a barricade and requested the assistance of MPD’s Emergency Response Team.

“The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect in a kidnapping in Northwest, and multiple arrests for an unlawful entry offense also occurring at the location of the kidnapping.

On Thursday, December 12, 2024, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Fourth District officers responded to the 4000 block of Kansas Avenue, Northwest, to assist the US Marshals who were in the area searching for a wanted suspect. During the investigation, officers located 13 individuals inside of a residence. One of the individuals, an adult male, was found with broken zip ties on his arms and legs and injuries to his back and leg. The victim stated to officers that he was being held against his will. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The detectives’ investigation revealed that on Wednesday evening, December 11, the suspects kept the victim at the offense location, against his will and assaulted him throughout the evening. The suspects made several attempts to extort money from the victim and were unsuccessful. (more…)

“Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today sued Amazon.com, Inc. (Amazon) for deceiving District residents into paying for Prime delivery benefits they are not receiving, in violation of District consumer protection law. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) alleges that since 2022, Amazon has secretly excluded two ZIP codes east of the Anacostia River from its advertised fastest delivery service while continuing to charge approximately 48,000 Prime members living there the full Prime subscription price.

Amazon consistently and prominently promotes its same-day, one-day, and two-day delivery speeds in its advertising for Prime and throughout the Prime membership signup process. However, (more…)
