Well I wasn’t expecting to hear this today! I spoke with the folks opening the tavern Dew Drop Inn coming to the upstairs space and they say it is unknown what will become of that space. It will be decided in the coming month or so – stay tuned on that front. Thanks to all who emailed – from Chocolate City Beer:

“After three and a half years in business, Chocolate City Beer will be closing its doors and turning off the lights on December 31st 2014. We want to give a heartfelt THANK YOU!!! to all our supporters, friends and family, to our neighbors in Brookland, Edgewood and to the greater DC/DMV region. It was our pleasure to be a part of the local craft beer renaissance since 2011.
We will remain open for our regular Growler Hours both Saturdays December, 20th and 27th, as well as a couple TBA weekday nights approaching New Years Eve.

Our latest and sadly, last brew is in the tank, a New Brew: a heavily hopped Black IPA named GoodBye.P.A.- w/ Citra and Galaxy Hops and a strong roasted malt backbone.

Be sure to swing by, say farewell, pick up some Growlers of the last Cornerstone Copper Ale, Cerveza Nacional Black Lager and our swan song GoodBye.P.A.”

Such an incredibly cool space begging for a bar. I’m very psyched to share this news from the owners of Wonderland (11th and Kenyon St, NW):

“Dew Drop Inn will have an American deli menu: sandwiches, soups, salads, bbq. And drinks. And a deck for trainspotting.”

If all goes well they plan on opening above Chocolate City Brewery (near the new Mess Hall) in late Spring/early Summer. Knock wood, knock wood! Stay tuned for tons of updates on this place because I’m beyond excited about the prospect.

From a press release:

“Atlas Brew Works today announced it will offer beer in cans at select retailers and
its Ivy City facility beginning Friday, December 19th!

“We are thrilled to offer our customers Atlas beer in cans!” said Atlas CEO Justin Cox, “Atlas drinkers will be able to enjoy our beer in many places that just aren’t practical for a keg or growler. From grabbing a 6- pack for a neighborhood cookout to sitting by the pool or going for a hike, cans are very versatile and we’re excited to add them to our lineup.”

Atlas will offer 6-packs of its two flagship brands, the quaffable lager District Common and the hoppy rye ale Rowdy. Previously, Atlas beers were available on draft throughout the District, and in kegs, growlers, and large format bottles from the brewery. “Cans are a great packaging addition for Atlas, they keep our beer fresh by protecting the beer from light and oxygen, and they have the added environmental benefit of being completely recyclable.” said Head Brewer Will Durgin.

Atlas Brew Works will exclusively debut Rowdy and District Common cans at Whole Foods Market in Logan Circle (1440 P St NW) on Friday, December 19th, with tastings available at the store on Saturday, December 20th. Availability will follow at other stores and markets throughout D.C. beginning the 22nd. Cans will also be available in the brewery Tasting Room, open Fridays 5-8pm, Saturdays 1-8pm, and Sundays 1-8pm.

Founded by Justin Cox and award winning professional brewer Will Durgin, Atlas Brew Works is located in the Ivy City neighborhood of Northeast D.C. Atlas offers its signature fresh, local beers Rowdy and District Common as well as rotating seasonals to thirsty Washingtonians in taverns, restaurants, and markets across the District.”

From an email:

“Tonight we will be celebrating one full year of brewing in Shaw! To celebrate we have a full line-up of beers including the return of the Summer favorite, Really Rosie (a rose berlinerweisse), a coffee-infused Haxan, and some barrel-aged versions of a few favorites from the past year. There will be some retrospectives and food specials as well. 5pm-12am!”

From a press release:

“Typically, local farmers use the spent grain soaked during the brewing process from DC Brau to feed their livestock. But each year during the holidays, the brewery teams up with Pizzeria Paradiso to do something a little more special with that grain.

For the 4th year in a row, the brewery and the pizzeria have baked more than 200 loaves of Brewer’s Grain bread to donate to Bread for the City (www.breadforthecity.org) to feed the less fortunate among us during the Thanksgiving holiday. DC Brau’s Brandon Skall and Jennifer Jackson made the first of two deliveries of this year’s donation earlier today (pictures attached).

Also, from this Friday through Christmas, the public will be able to buy a special Brewer’s grain pizza at any of the 3 local Pizzeria Paradiso locations that use DC Brau’s spent grain in the crust. $2 from each pie will go to benefit Bread for the City.”

From Zagat:

“#2Brookland Pint

Publican John Andrade continues his conquest of the District’s brew scene with this rustic tavern near the Catholic University, which one-ups sister establishments Meridian Pint and Smoke & Barrel in the sustainability department by devoting the majority of its 24 taps to locally made beers. A huge lineup of large-format bottles complements the pours, and the menu of upscale pub fare will satisfy vegetarians and meat lovers alike.”

Thanks to all who sent emails about the big news about Shaw’s Right Proper Brewing Company from DC Beer:

“Right Proper will open a brewery to serve both the restaurant and area accounts.”

On the Brookland listserv a resident writes:

“Right Proper Brewing Company ~~ is the new business.

Weekend tastings etc,!”

A reader of mine also hears there will be a tasting room. Stay tuned for updates when they get closer to opening.
