From All Souls (725 T Street, NW): “This was not an easy decision to make but All Souls will be erring on the side of caution and will be closed for the immediate future. We will evaluate this decision next week as the situation evolves.”

From All Souls’ website:

“Dear Friends & Neighbors,

This was not an easy decision to make but All Souls will be erring on the side of caution and will be closed for the immediate future. We will evaluate this decision next week as the situation evolves.

We struggled between not wanting to over-react or under-react but the decision was finally easier to make when we remembered we’re a bar. The very thing we do is bring people together and right now that seems like a bad idea, especially with booze involved. (more…)

Future patio outside 2827 Sherman Ave, NW at Harvard

More info on de Rum Spot coming to Sherman Ave – note opening date is planned for June 1st not May 1st. And if you weren’t excited before – oh my goodness… From an email:

“The new authentic Caribbean street food eatery and Rhum bar will serve many of the menu items from its acclaimed sister restaurant, Cane Rhum Bar in Charleston – hailed as one of the best places to dine in South Carolina. (more…)

1433 H Street, NE

Thanks to Rich for sending: “Just saw a big for sale sign on the old Argonaut. Thought it might be of interest to folks who keep track of H Street. Would love to know more about what the potential plans are and who buys it.”

The Argonaut abruptly closed back in July 2016. A terribly sad day. In 2017 we noted the space was being cleaned out. Crickets since then until now.

The listing says:

“Opportunity to acquire a mixed-use zoned building (4.0 to 4.8 FAR) on a signalized corner in one of DC’s most dynamic neighborhoods (more…)

100 M Street, SE

Thanks to Raymond for sending. Looks like Rockville closed March 1st. Did Navy Yard also close March 1st? And I just confirmed over the phone – they closed permanently in Navy Yard on Sunday too. If you go to Gordon Biersch’s website there are no locations listed for D.C. (and the Rockville on is gone too.)

Gordon Biersch opened in Navy Yard back in March 2013. (more…)

4602 14th Street, NW, looking south towards Buchanan Street

I’ll be curious to learn more about this space. The liquor license application for 9 Bars Street Art Café says:

“A new C Tavern. Seating Capacity of 40. Total Occupancy Load of 47. License will include an Entertainment Endorsement.”

Update: Thanks to Chad for passing on their website:

“We are DCs first street art cafe
An espresso bar with a sublime cup of coffee,
a waffle that you cant get anywhere else,
wrapped in a culture decades in the making”

We are thrilled you’ve found us! 9 Bars Street Art Cafe is the first of it’s kind in DC, an espresso bar serving the best daggone waffles you’ve ever tasted, owned and operated by a local street artist. We specialize in a sublime cortado paired with a delectable treat, a made to order waffle that you can’t find anywhere else. We will be displaying artworks from local artists, hosting exhibitions, and are available to add flavor to your next event as a kiosk.”

STAY TUNED.

Update from ABRA:

“ABC-licensed establishments are required to take reasonable steps to ascertain whether a person they sell, serve, or deliver an alcoholic beverage is of legal drinking age. DC law does not prohibit a minor from sitting with an adult person within an establishment.

From Lawyer Andrew Kline: “No law against it, but operator has right to exclude those not of age.”

“Dear PoPville,

On Saturday, we were kicked out of a restaurant in Chinatown after the manager prevented us from sitting at the bar, arguing that our 4 months old baby is under the age allowed to drink!! After we agreed to sit in the restaurant side instead, and walked towards the restaurant bar, he said that we cannot sit with a baby in a bar, only at the tables which were 3 feet away. When we argued that it is absurd, he kicked us out. Shame on them.”

[Scene: I’m just finishing up breakfast number two, laughing maniacally as I type.]

So babies in the bar – what do you think about them?

[Full disclosure] Even in jest, no way I’m looking at these comments and I’ll be muting all the @PoPville social media responses too so have fun but you guys are your own! I’ll be back for the dog poop in the bike lane discussion later this afternoon. I’m off to lunch number one.
