“Clyde’s Restaurant Group is pleased to announce their new cocktail-centric bar and restaurant Fitzgerald’s (1232 36th Street, NW) – replacing former bar concept F. Scott’s – is opening on Saturday, June 26th, 2021. Hours of operation will be Wednesday through Sunday, 5pm until closing. Fitgerald’s will celebrate a return to classic Georgetown, elegance, embracing historic connections, while adding an elevated emphasis on food from critically-acclaimed Executive Chef Kyoo Eom and a modern bar program lead by General Manager and Beverage Director Brian Zipin – both also of next door culinary sibling and award-winning fine dining restaurant 1789. Mayflower Club’s Facebook says:

“Our story begins in 1933, during the waning days of Prohibition. Police raided the speakeasy housed in this building, seizing large quantities of illegal alcohol and arresting the proprietor, Zachariah “Zebbie” Goldsmith.

Today, 1223 Connecticut Ave., just south of Dupont Circle, is soon to be the home to The Mayflower Club and Zebbie’s Garden a multi-level restaurant, bar, and lounge. (more…)

“Columbia Room will reopen its Spirits Library on Wednesday, June 23, marking the first time the award-winning bar has operated indoors since March 2020. The Spirits Library will join Columbia Room’s Spritz Garden, which encompasses its outdoor spaces (rooftop and ground-level streatery), in welcoming guests to its Blagden Alley home.

Big U Street bar news. Thanks to Tom for sending word about The Alchemist which appears either to be coming to the beloved former Codmother space or the space above it (stay tuned.) The liquor license placard here for The Alchemist says: “A new Retailer’s Class C Tavern with a seating capacity of 47 and Total Occupancy Load of 50. Licensee is requesting an Entertainment Endorsement.”
